Looks like a nice truck....i had a dually that looked just like that for a very breif time (my buddie was outta town ) and with the pump turned and that 5spd made for a fun weekend

oh how i remember those days i put a cummins in my 99 ford and will be doing it to my 72. looks great have fun.

I've got some trust in the cherry picker though, It picks up the entire front half of the race truck all the time to droop the suspension out It may not look pretty, and may not be on wheels anymore, but it seems to work
Front crossmember had to come down a lot to clear the cummins oil pan.
Cummins in the highboy at last
I pulled the trans crossmember from the Dodge and trimmed it down to size and stuck it in the highboy's frame rails and bolted the tranny back up to that, simple enough right?
Just need to figure out how much to raise the crossmember off the bottom frame rail lip to set the crank angle right. Looks like the crossmember needs to sit an inch or two off the bottom lip so I'll just fab some spacers or mount deal up, or maybe even use the original highboy trans crossmember perch deals
I decided on using 1st gen motor mounts, so picked up a new set and this is going to be the tough part, but shouldn't be TOO bad. The motor mounts sit soooooo low in the frame it's really going to be some awkward looking mounts. I am offsetting the Cummins as far to the passenger side as i can... until the a/c compressor hits the front crossmember. Trying to get the trans yoke in line with the t-case yoke.

You're going to be a busy guy to meet your goal. The 1st gen mounts are nice to use, but as you probably know they don't hold much torque. The 94-02 style mounts are an improvement, but they take a lot of real estate and don't fit all that well in anything. The 2003+ commonrail mounts work pretty good. The mounts themselves will not rip apart, the rubber absorbs more vibes than the old stuff and the cast brackets usually fit pretty good. Destroked uses two of the short side commonrail mounts with their kits.

Yeah, the old mounts were tearing apart which is why i picked up a new set, hopefully I get another 20 years out of these new mounts.
The Cummins is set in the truck (resting on oil pan and poorly placed trans crosssmember), but fairly close to where it will be. holding the new rubber mounts to the Cummins motor mount brackets, the bottom of the rubber is almost level with the bottom of the frame rails...
I should have the Cummins sitting right where it needs to be mounted tomorrow and I can get some pictures. I want to have motor mounts and trans mount done and bolted to the cummins early this weekend.

Where should I put the return line on the mustang gas tank? The pickup line is near the bottom front of the tank, can i drill a hole next to the pickup line and TIG a return line fitting on there , or does the return line need to go into the top of the tank? And if it goes in the top of the tank, do i need to run it to the bottom of the tank or just simply weld a fitting to the top and be done?

I would run the return to the top of the tank. I dont think you want the pump to be having to "push" the fuel returning to the tank fighting the volume thats already in there. I would think if you just had a fitting at the top of the tank and be done with it.

That's what I was thinking, just a fitting on the top and be done, although I'm not sure if it should go to the bottom of the tank or not. I read that you don't want the bubbling that is created by the fuel dropping from the fitting at the top so you run it to the bottom of the tank, but that sounds like BS to me.
I did order a nice but pricey ($70..) tank cleaning/sealing kit so It's time to pull the tank and get the return line fitting on there and seal the tank for the diesel so it doesn't eat the galvanized coating
