door adjustment?

Post by 76Kroh »

http://rs929.pbsrc.com/albums/ad133/Sta ... pg~320x480 Has anyone adjusted the striker on a 68 before? My driver door rattles and just needs shut tighter but I can't figure out how to loosen the striker. I thought it was just a nut back there but it doesn't appear to be a nut holding it on. I thought maybe it was just stripped but the passenger side looks the same. I stuck my phone in there to get a picture because I couldn't figure out why a socket would not go on there. Any ideas? :hmm:

There is just a plate with a threaded hole on the cab. It slides into a pocket behind the pillar. A 12 point socket will fit over the head of striker to loosen. Before you do this you need to find out why it is loose. Are the door seals worn out or maybe the latch is not capturing the striker all of the way. Sometimes cleaning and lubricating it will help.

Sorry, I think you need a torx type tool for the striker adjust, the 12 point socket thing is Government Motors.

It is a male Torx. A set of them to go with your sockets does not cost much. I just adjusted a friends door with mine. They come in handy every now and then. Years back I used a pipe wrench, but it chews things up a little.

This is the right tool. The biggest one and it is a T-50.

The only thing to turn is the striker it's self and the face of it is smoth, no where to insert anything. I would think the 12 point socket will work or trusty pliers lol. Having a flywheel put in it so I will have to wait and see.

OK, then this is type for a 12-point socket type. I've seen Allen, torx and 6 point bolt heads, its in a box . I get confused in my advanced years.

Yeah, common 12pti socket to adjust. I think it's a 3/4" but it's been a couple months since I played with mine. Also make sure your body lines line up once finished. If not then you door hinges need help too and they suck to adjust.
