New project (slick not bump)

Well guys it's been a loooong time since I was regularly active here or since I've had a project but this past week my regular craigslist searching finally turned up something worth my attention. This 1963 slick was only 5 mins from my home, tucked away and hidden well out of sight. The guys add read "if your looking for one of these to put your time and money into this is it" so I took the time to go and give it a good look. How very surprised and pleased I was to find that what he claimed was true, it was very solid and very free of rust! A few years back a previous owner had put some effort into refurbishing it, this gave the 292 y-block a totally freshening as well as the 3 speed and rear axle! Then they also jammed the cab and firewall in in red and redid all the side glass regulators, anti rattle kits/felts and seals as well as the door rubbers and front and rear glass rubbers. The receipts for all this work as well as several photos do the work in progress were included with the truck as well as a clean TN title that I did confirm matched the trucks vin. I don't have to tell you that I waisted no time grabbing this thing up! We (my 9 y/o son and I)loaded it up and pulled her home, straight into our humble little shop and started sorting through all the parts in the bed and cab and cleaning thing up a bit. I'll realize it's not a bump but since I was active here during my last bump build I thought I'd share my enthusiasm and a few pics with you bump nuts. I'll be starting a project thread over on the slick60s board and I'll prob give small updates here from time to time as well.

yes I do have full intention of running the y block, all the receipts and pictures of the rebuild were included with the truck so im confident its a good motor (sounds great through the open headers) and I love the nostalgic look and feel they add to a hotrod! my only issues will be making it work with a mustang2 ifs. ive already found other trucks online running the combo so I know it'll work ill just have to figure out the details such as oil pan and exhaust, I don't think the current headers will work with the ifs cross member?? but isn't that 3/4s of the fun, figuring out how to make things work!

I've got a 64 f100 custom cab. They are great trucks. Solid for sure. It was the old farm truck. We restored it back in the early 90s to original. Good luck

A little more progress made, plans on using the yblock has changed it had a manual behind it and i want an auto and it's exspensive to adapt a later c4-c6 to it and the fordomatics that came behind them are a little rare and 2speeds so it's out! I've already shaved the front center engine mount and pulled the trans out. I don't know for sure what I'll go back with??










This pile of parts including, steering box, shock towers, and clutch peddle linkage means one of two things..it'll be a cool custom with ifs front suspension or it's a pile of scrap that'll never see the road again! Lol

Your right flyboy he is having fun! When I did the 68 a few years back he hung at the shop with me a lot but was to young to learn and do, this time he is all hands on and loving it and your right he is already talking bout driving it!
I've used 302s a lot on my past projects both the 68 and a few mustangs this time part of me like to go a different route with a big block but since the Windsor motors are more plentiful and my budget being really constrained I'll prob go with another 5 liter and a c4 like your suggesting.

I scored this old 1978 f100 this week for the drivetrain. I got it for $500 and despite it's overly abused appearance it has a great running 302/c6 combo in it! I spoke personally with the grandmother of the young man I bought it from and she told me she bought the long block for him 3 years ago. It fires at the slightest bump of the ignition and runs as smooth as a kitten with no smoke at all! I'll pull the motor/trans, tilt column and a few other parts and it'll prob go for scrap as bad as I hate to be the culprit that ends the life of an old ford truck it's just to rough to do anything else with. The real damage to the body is on the pass side!

I got the motor and transmission extracted today, now It's ready for some teardown and a good clean up and some paint, I know I doesn't look like a 3 year old engine but the folks I bought it from says the guy they hired to do the swap didn't clean anything up, just swapped all his stuff to the long block and put it back together. I did notice the timing cover is seeping a little oil so I will buy a gasket kit and get it sealed up.



I also got the firewall and inner fenders sanded and some fresh black paint on them both, satin on the firewall to match the final body color and flat on the inner fenders. All this stuff is all nesassary but it really feels like busy work while in waiting to order the front suspension parts.

I got a little accomplished the past few days. The engine wasn't to bad dirty but I got it completely disassembled and perfectly clean and coated it in fresh blue paint! I also have a foxbody rear sump pan on it's way and I had a nice fellow on the slick60 Facebook page offer me a EGR'less carb spacer I was looking for and only ask me to pay the shipping so I'ts pose to be on it's way to me as well. Now some pics....

Just a few more things, water pump, oilpan and the accessories on the front and this thing will be ready to store in the corner and wait for its install after the chassi work is completed, just a note..I'm not gonna be using the rocker covers pictured.
