After I got it home I realized it had some major rust issues and decided to strip it down. Needless to say the only thing worth considering keeping was the frame, engine and suspension. The body was pretty well shot all over and the bed was toast. That’s when I decided to mod the frame and add a ’03 Crown Vic front suspension and ’98 explorer rear and go custom. While I was doing all of that I started collecting the sheet metal I needed to rebuild.
About a year later one of our forum members “Drytoast” had an unfortunate accident that ended up totaling his bump. I acquired the truck and figured I could use most of the body from it to get what I needed for my project and scrap the rest. It had 50k miles on it and was in pretty decent shape overall despite the damage.

So this spring I decided to strip the orange 72 and declare the frame to be scrap. The more I dismantled the truck the more I found a heck of a lot of really good, like new parts on it and began to second guess which of the two projects I really wanted to tackle. What looked like a parts truck suddenly became more of the actual project. I was also getting too many comments from the Mrs asking when I was ever going to do something with all my stuff. So, I have decided to go somewhat stock on the resto and just make it mild and do most of the updates on the interior. This will give me something to finish and drive. The other chassis can be done once this one is finished. So, right now I finished the frame and as soon as I complete my sandblast cabinet the rest of the chassis will follow.
