Powder coat is best, but POR 15 is really good alternative.

Powder for a 2wd.. POR and a paint topcoat for a 4wd... The latter combo is easier to touch up after scraping on rocks and such.... try that with powder.

If you are on a tight budget brush on Rustoleum (tractor supply paint). I used satin black, with a base of primer and it is tough and looks really good. very pleased with the results.

Thanks for the replies guys. I think the POR 15 looks good and will more than likely give that a shot.

Would you apply that to only the frame members or the underside body parts as well ?

Thanks, Dog_River

I would apply to the underside as well. In fact I did the inside and underside of my cab with POR. I apply two coats of POR and then when the POR gets tacky, I apply 3 coats of rattle can gloss black paint as a UV protector and to get the gloss black shine. If you wait to late the rattle can paint will not stick.

Do not open the POR 15 can, instead shake it, I know they say do not shake but this my 3nd restoration using the stuff and I shake it without ill effects. Punch the lid like you would an old oil can. Pour out what you need in a cup. Wipe the lid clean and apply foil tape. Place can in zip lock bag and store inside. The stuff will last a year or more.

I use a cheap chip brush to apply. Can get a box of 20 or so from Harbor Freights for few bucks.
