Removing Cab question

Post by luke-ao »

On a 68 F100 2wd, is it possible to remove the cab without removing the front clip if the truck bed has been removed?

I have a major shop space issue I'm trying to work around and have to do the complete tear down in stages.

Don't see why not. I believe I would remove hood and fab a X brace to mount to clip to keep it aligned with cab

Following this. Will likely be doing the same.
But, I would think you could:
disconnect any wiring harness and ground cables from engine area to cab;
disconnect shift and steering linkages and remove steering column;
disconnect brake lines and probably remove brake booster/mc;
disconnect fuel line and remove fuel tank;
unbolt the rubber pieces connecting fenders to cab;
unbolt the four cab mounts;
probably remove glass (I will because I will be working on the bottom of my cab);
probably overlooking some items (like the hood).
Lift cab up and set in bed area - that will be my approach most likely or lean cab back to access underneath portions.

Cab looks pretty solid or is that rust more than surface rust.

It's very solid. I did patch the passenger side floor board and I'm replacing the trans tunnel.

I need to remove the cab to paint the bottom and I'm shaving the two firewall seams under the hood. Along with a bunch of other misc things.

Not a swap but I'm going to customize this one and do some repairs. Also I removed it to make it easier to paint and reseal the body seams.
