Differences Between '67 and Later Door Locks

Okay, so I was working on te old girl, replacing the door locks so I could use a single key for doors and ignition, and I wanted to post a couple of pics between the original '67 locks and the new '68+ locks.

The first photo shows a side view. The'67 has the triangular tang, where the newer (replacement) has the squared-off tang. Not sure why they changed it. The new tumbler fit into the doors fine.

The second photo shows the real difference. The '67 uses a peg to engage the locking mechanism. The later lock has the plate with the hole. I had to switch these to make the new locks work in a '67 door. Other than that, it was a real simple swap.

Strange.. Both my 69 and 72 use the peg. In fact, both sets of locks from both trucks look exactly like what you have in your 67. Are you sure that your "68" lock is stock and original? Every bump I have worked on in which I have taken the doors off of and taken the parts off of (about 8 or 9) have all had the peg and looked like your 67 locks.

Hmmm ... How bizarre. The new tumblers had the flat plate with the hole, and a key that was identical to ours. It was definitely Ford. I got it from someone who gave me a '72 parts truck, and he worked for Ford, so I "assumed" that it was from/for his truck. Maybe you're right. Maybe it was a tumbler for something else, but happened to fit our bumps, but the arm was unique to something else.

Gad, I hate it when I assume ...

Thanks for the input/correction. Anyone else have experience with this?

I've had a few '70-'72 trucks. All had the rod type lever, but a NOS 67-72 lockset I bought had levers with the hole.

My 67 locks with the inside door handle, not a pull type lock by the window. I am sure I will have the same issue.
