Well, it had to start somewhere. First I rebuilt the carb, as it had gas shooting out the accelerator pump when I'd push it hard. These pics are my first cosmetic upgrade. I'm swapping some of the parts from my 2wd shortbed before I sell it, and the grill was tonights project. Next will be my brand new bumpers and nice dash pad. Check it out!

lookin good
I love crews, I especially like that one cause I seen it when I was in Cali.
Are you changing the front to discs? If not, I have my old axle still from my '72 if you need the hubs to change to the manual hub from full timers.

Thanks, but it actually has manual hubs already. I think they're original, cuz it has instructions on the dash for how to use them.
BTW, I love the way this truck drives. The only thing I'd really like to do is put power steering (or even power assist) on it.

They looked like the full time ones I just didn't look close enough , and yah, power steering is a must especially with those big tires, for now you better eat yer Wheaties
Mine has power assist and it works pretty good but it sure runs hot, I have a power box from a '78 I may try one day.
Keep the pics comming
Yes sir, I sure have. I dream of one day being able to steer with one hand
Quick little story for ya.
Well ya know how with the manual steering when a wheel hits a rock or curb it rips wheel out of your hand.. Well my 68 after I did the conversion that was a thing of the past.
Coming home late one night after helping a friend work on his chevy, i dosed off and drifted off the road and up into a snow bank that was about 6' tall. The steering wheel never turned but when the passenger side tire couldn't push thru the snow anymore it climbed over it and rolled the truck onto it's side..I can still see that moment in my head. Snow everywhere.
Cops came and all that, wrecker got me back up on all 4's. Let it sit for five minutes. Fired it up and drove it home. Which was only about 3 miles..Had to replace the hood, fix the bump at the rear corner of the cab and the bump at the end of the bed. That's it for damage..

That is the grill I had on my 2wd shortbox. If you remember it was in black primer when I got it, and I just stripped it and used eagle one polish wadding on it. It also had a couple chunks cut out for a grill gaurd, so I cut a couple full peices out of a wrecked junkyard grill and trimmed them to fit, overlapping the ends and attaching it with rivits. No one notices unless I show them! I'm real happy with how it turned out.

When you say it runs hot, do you mean it causes the truck to run hot or the unit itself runs hot??

The unit itself runs hot, I've been told I should be running a tranny cooler on the return line to the PS pump. The valve down off of the pitman arm gets hot almost like an exhaust manifold, I guess thats why mine leaks .

Hey, if you're unhappy with the way it leaks I'd be happy to take it off your hands!
