Re: 1969 F250 4x4 Highboy 1/3/12 Cummins' along
I'm afraid that's the end of this sad story. Not sure what else you guys are getting at here .
The transmission is totally done, all kinds of metal in the pan, it needs a full rebuild. I'm not going to have this transmission rebuilt when I am dying to swap in a nv4500 anyways so I must hold out for the nv4500. But this swap is going to be at least $2k (Figure nv4500 ($1,000), clutch ($600), new adapter plate, new starter, master and slave cylinders, d-shaft, etc.). I have no moneys.
So. After the race truck is traded for the Land Rover next month I can start saving for this swap, meaning the highboy would be back on the road mayyybe end of summer. Therefore, plan B, is I list the Rover up for sale and drive it until it sells then fix the highboy and throw all kinds of money at it making it even more awesome. Unless I fall in love with the Rover. Who knows...

I have good working 92 2wd gutbag, clutch, hydraulics and driveshaft yoke. It has 327,000 untouched miles on it behind 160HP with synthetic and still going strong. It will be coming out for a G56 in a month or so. It would be a hell of a lot cheaper than an NV4500 and just as poor of a transmission.

You should check out the classified on 4btswaps.com if you haven't already. There's a NV4500 adapter plate that for sale right now over there. Most of the prices that people have been asking for have been pretty reasonable from what I've seen.
Good luck on the NV4500 conversion!

A) They're stupid expensive because;67 428 F250 wrote:Soooooo what is wrong with the NV4500?
B) They break
C) The gear ratios
I had a 2wd NV4500 a few months back that worked OK, could've used synchros. No shifter, no bellhousing. I knew a few guys that wanted one bad, made a few calls to make offers and that NV4500 was gone in a day for $800. So I sold what I'd consider to be a core trans in working shape for $800 and the guy who bought it felt like he stole it. You can buy brand new NV4500's from India for about $2000. That's got to be the best way to go since all the parts out there to patch them back together come from India anyway.
Pullers like the NV4500's because they are the strongest transmission in 4th gear, straight through. They are the strongest in direct because they have the shortest distance between the bearings that support the mainshaft.

I don't missed any pics but do you have some good detailed photos of the cummins swap and what was all needed to. Be done to your truck to make it fit? What year cummins did you go with I'm looking for a 12v now to swap in my 71 f250 4x4 and am looking for all the info I can get on this swap

Re: 1969 F250 4x4 Highboy 1/3/12 Cummins' along
After the Cummins in my 86 F250 broke the diesel C6, I sold the gear vendor and decided to go with a ZF5 from a Ford. The swap would cost you about the same ($500-$1000 for a trans and $1000-$1200 for an adapter).
Just an idea.

No
It's so sad seeing this beast sitting in the driveway. I miss driving it so much
BUT... Funny you bump this right now because last night I sold my beloved dual sport dirt bike so that I would have plenty of cash to fix this beast. Just waiting on the road trip to oregon to pick up the parts (5 speed, misc. swap parts, NP205) now then it's just a matter of getting the 5 speed and NP205 swapped in

Getrag 5spd from Dustin (averagef250). Just waiting for him to get a chance to pull the sucker then I'm headed up to Oregon (road trip!!!) to pick it up along with a divorced NP205.
