so the key wouldn't lock the truck? would the key turn at all? if it turned then the inner working must be messed up. if it wouldn't turn then someone has chaged the ignition lock but not the door locks.

Hey RC...

I really wasn't fantasizing about you being in a straight jacket... I'm really not into that stuff...
I was theoretically speaking about anyone... and thinking about how anyone could lock themselves in their own rig...
I've locked myself out of my van more time than I can count...
I finally figured out how I was doing it, and haven't done it in awhile now...
When I wuz gettin' out, my arm was catching the latch...
For along time, I thought the auto locks were actin' up...

Now back to yer locking situation...
Can you push down the button inside and lock the door itself ???
If so, then the locking mechanism is workin' ok, it is just not working with the key...
Which would be what Fordman said... someone changed the ignition lock without changing the door locks.

Well, today I had to give up on doing anything with my tuck.....when the water reaches half way up the tire, it's indoor work that gets done.

Fordman...nopers....no matter how hard I try to turn the key to make the button go down, the button doesn't go down and the key only turns a quarter turn. This is on both doors. How was your day by the way? Mine was good.

Kaptn Kaptn Kaptn......aaaaaaaaall that just to say what Fordman said...whew. I musta scared ya with that threat of you being in that straight jacked dar! You said you're not into straight jackets, but I did notice you didn't say anything about the straps. It's not what you said, it's what you didn't say that's got my curiosity going now. He he  I think I'm gonna have a lot of fun pickin' on ya! About your question about the locks.....nope....they only go down half way, tis why I said I can't lock them.

Jamie.....now, why would you think that you could start something and not finish it with me? Nevermind? No no no, that's not how it works with me. Yeah, I already figured out it was a party truck...when I went to clean it....I found wine corks under the seat....and in the bed I found three broken wine glasses. So, I think it's safe to assume that the people who owned it before my son in law put that dent in the grille while on one of their shindigs. Thank you for the welcome, that's so kind of you.

Thank you and welcome to my life guys!

try spraying some penetrating oil inside of the dorr lcok where the key goes. use the one with the red tube on it. wd40 will not work. my day was wasted. i didn't get anything done except load up a load of scrap from here and my dads place. by the time i wa done the scrap yard was closing. they close too early. 3:30 in the afternoon. that will be my first trip tomorrow morning. dump it and come back and get the aluminum i have in a trailer. and my cans. that should be all of the scrap yard runs until spring i hope.

hmmmm RC...

Now I'm perplexed...
Sounds like yer gonna haveta pull the door panels off and shoot some PB blaster or other kind of penetrating oil on the locking mechanism inside the door.
The key turns a lever that either pulls up or pushes down an actuating rod for the lock.
If that mechanism is rusted or corroded and can't move, it would cause both the button and the key not to be able to lock the door... Try that when you get a chance

No worries KC... I can handle it... :P

I hope everyone got their beloved bump out of the flood waters in time. I'm high here so I don't have to worry about that.

Howdy Alvinator from this Alabaman transplant here......howz the South treatin' ya? I ain't worried about my lil spot on this message board being hijacked... feel free to hijack it all ya want. There doesn't seem to be much of a bull crappers corner on this message board....and if it's okay with the board owner and y'all...I would like my thread to be used for it, too. I'm new here, so I don't know how tech talk this board is to remain. But, I'll just be the social butterfly as I can be until I get told otherwise. And, thanks for the big welcome! I'm glad I made it here!

Aaaaaaaand, g'day to you, Kaptn.....how goes your day? I am trying to get things done inside....there's too much to do in here and so little time that I have that I have to get it done in the next two days....so my truck has to be on back burner.....but I'll get out to it some time today to figure out what the heck is wrong with my locks.

Hoping ya guys are having a great day so far!

Yeah.. Fordman..

I finally went out about 430am... but slept in until 900am 'cause I took today and tomorrow off for a 4 day weekend..
I worked New Years day and the next.
I'm tired now... worked on the camper for a couple of hours today, getting it ready to relocate the aux battery.
