Re: So here i go..
On my first post I said I would add some interior pics, I also took a few of old fireball's empty stomach while I was at it. Hope I ain't going overboard with these post, but a good way to keep up with it all and plus my son likes looking at it...and also any good advice I may receive along the way. By the end of tomorrow I hope to have engine spotless, then gonna remove can and bed. Saturday I will start assembling engine....we will see, I am a one man show, with a hoist and a tree limb...ha ha
As you can see I was very careful when removing the exhaust from headers....

Going to be a couple of days before I can post anything new, old fireballs block fell off of the engine stand onto my right hand. Shattered three bones and going to need a couple of screws, always wanted to make metal detectors go off at airports....still gonna try to work one handed on him, will see what I can do

Damn Buddy...sorry to see that. In the world of Fords, that's called being "Snake Bit" in honor of Carroll Shelby.
Hope y'all get better real soon...BUT don't let your injury make you a stranger here, we'd all like to hear from you and that you're getting better.
...and at your expense, your stories of working on your Bump "one handed" may be funnier than hell.

Re: So here i go..
Good evening Tim,
Thanks so much for the entertaining truck photos and story! I especially like the engine cleaning photos since they're "action shots."
I'm really sorry to hear about your hand! Working with items that are heavier than a man can lift has always given me a spooky feeling. They don't tend to give any warning before they tumble down on whatever unlucky object's under them.
I wish you a speedy recovery, and I'm looking forward to seeing more truck photos when you're back in business.

Thanks to all of you, and forrestbump tomorrow there will be pics, one handed of course, of me working on old fireball. Heck I got hit in the head with some schrapmetal overseas While clearing minefields in Bagram Afghanistan back in 02, so guess what???? Ain't no broken bone gonna slow me down, both times I got hurt doing something I love!!! Stay tuned people....if it goes to hurting to bad, I will just eat another Loratab and keep on trucking...good night. Talk to y'all tomorrow.

Re: So here i go..
Tim, Thank You, again, for your service to our wonderful country. I think it's great that, in spite of your serious wounds overseas, you maintain a wonderful sense of humor about it. Makes you a pretty remarkable, humble and stoic guy in my book.
While we're on the subject of wounds, a word of caution here: Watch Out for that damned hood latch that's attached to the hood! If Ford gave out Purple Hearts, we'd all have them here from that damned hood hinge. Once bitten, twice shy...
Just out of my own curiosity, did your engine stand fail or did the fasteners that attached the block to the stand snap off causing the block to fall?
The reason I'm asking is that I think this would possibly make a great thread in general discussion as a warning to some of our newer and/or younger and/or less experienced members on things to watch out for when attaching their motor to an engine stand. It makes me shutter to think of the consequences of small kids or pets near an engine on a stand that could fall on them. just a thought...
I'm looking forward to your one handed photos.
Larry

Oh! Man sorry to poke fun at your injury... But I can't help but laugh at the thought of your one handed pecking to keep us up to date with your build. Seems like your coming along quite well. Watch your hand, and let it heel if I know us Army types, we don't quit for nothing when we are set on doing something. But don't hurt it further and delay your progress more than it must. Just some advice from another concerned NCO. And I am sure that this will be mentioned in your next safety brief Keep having fun with it and I look forward to your progress!

Re: So here i go..
Ok, so I got a little done today. Started by removing the motor mounts with my left hand and right elbow...
Not so bad once I got the hang of it
Notice my safety shoes....toes will be next if I dont start thinking

Re: So here i go..
After removing the mounts it was time to hit the old block and heads with the wire wheel...
Then broke out the Drembil for some fine tuning....
Then it was bath time...
Heads are to freaking heavy for a crip...

Re: So here i go..
So now the motor is spotless and ready to be put back together, and on top of it all a good friend called and gave me a 460 juiced up with a built c6!!!! Oh well the 390 will be a backup, I just wish I could have gotten more done this weekend...
so feeling tired and useless...I ended the day under old fireball removing the bed and cab bolts...of course...one handed. Just call me ole lefty for now. Will post updates as I get them, going to get pins in wrist in morning. Hope all had a good weekend, and GOD bless all my fellow soldiers who paid the ultimate price to protect what we love.
