Let's start an electrical education thread

Post by sargentrs »

Tried to help a fellow member with an electrical issue yesterday and came to the realization that I described reading the wiring schematic and the various circuits the same as I've done dozens of times before to other members issues. I have a couple of documents saved in Word describing my Duraspark conversion and my ATO fuse panel installation. These come in handy so that I can just copy and paste them into a thread about those topics. In describing the latest issue, I came to the realization that I truly did not know where the "source" of power actually starts. For example, does it start at the voltage regulator and travel through the ignition switch or does it start with the fuse panel, travel through the switch and then go to the voltage regulator? :hmm: Thought it would be handy to have a thread here for basic training and education so we can refer to it instead retyping the same answers to the same questions we all encounter regarding electrical issues. I've been a forum member for 14 years now and have learned so much through this forum. We have a huge wealth of knowledge and experience in our members and it would be a shame for that to be lost in the future.

So here's my thought...let's start a thread here and share our knowledge about our trucks electrical systems and reading wiring schematics and diagrams in general. The purpose of the thread is just to share our knowledge with others who may be new to the electrical game. This would not be a troubleshooting or repair thread but just a knowledge library. We should let them know that to address a specific issue they should start a new thread about it and not clutter this up with a lot of questions and what-ifs. We can post our combined knowledge, reference the tech section, other threads or external sources. Kind of like the 3G sticky or the "here's some diagrams for everyone" sticky but without the questions and answers.

What do you think? Is this a worthwhile endeavor?
