Hit up the local junkyard today. Scored an eight lug rim with a tire to replaced my dry rotted one. Now I have an extra rim for a spare

I decided to go with the DSII setup. I found three trucks with DSII brain boxes in the junkyard this weekend. Unfortunately two of them were fried

Got the one good one and the plugs out of the harness. Gunna put the DSII set up in this weekend

Your truck's gonna love it. You might need to increase your timing a little afterwards. Btw, in case you didn't realize, you'll need new plug wires. The DS cap has male tips. I forgot and got excited when I got my harness wired up and pulled my new distributor out of the box. Crap....Another trip to the parts store....

Sargentrs - I did the same exact thing with the plug wires

Got the DSII installed today. Started with regapping all plugs to .045. Then I went to switch out dizzy's. As fate would have it, when I shut the truck down it stopped right at TDC! Dropped in the "new" dizzy and installed new wires (after a trip to the parts store

)
After that I installed the brain box on the fender and made up a wiring harness. Only hiccup I ran into was snapping a post off of my accel coil

Set it up with the original points coil and she fired up. Had a rough cold idle but smoothed out after warming up. Has a pretty bad miss if I rev it up.
I plan on getting a new coil tm and getting out the vac gauge and adjusting the idle mixture and timing tm. Hopefully that'll clear up the miss/rough idle. I also have to clean up the wiring I put in and make it look presentable, and do an oil change.

Found this tab under about 1/8" oil and crud on the coil mounting bracket....

Got the DSII tuned in today with the vac gauge. Runs really well.

I took it on a test run of about 30 miles. Parked it. Went to start it right after shut off and the starter would barely turn. Never had a problem with the starter before.

Either it's coincidental that the starter decided to stop working after my first drive with DSII or could the electronic ignition be running hotter and cooking the starter on me?

The supposed "bad starter" has turned into quite a string of problems. The engine block heater is above my neg bat terminal frame ground/engine to frame ground and has been leaking on it. Cleaned it up, stopped the leak, and the truck fired up. Then I noticed that the battery wasn't charging

Long story short - tight alternator belts, new alternator, grounds cleaned and tightened up, new voltage regulator, but still no charge.

Field test showing the alternator is good. Wires show continuity and the fusible link is intact for the Bat wire on the alternator. Bat to frame ground, engine to frame, engine to firewall, and alternator grounds are all cleaned. I plan on having the new regulator tested tm or exchanged for another. Hopefully this is in fact the faulty part because I'm out of ideas....

Charging issue ending up being an oops on my part when installing DSII. Got it all sorted out in another thread...

Replaced the seized up e-brake cables with a set I had from a 66 F250. Other than that I've been driving the truck 64 miles a day to work and back.

Been experimenting with timing on my drive. At 12 BTDC I was getting about 11.5 mpg. Moved it to 10 and started pulling 12.4 consistently. Gunna bump it up to 8 next week and see what happens.

I think I confused myself on timing. Dunno why I was trying to go numerically lower

. After more fiddling, trial and error the truck seems to like 14 BTDC the best.

I was looking through your thread and saw the dealer logo on your truck, and I use to live by that dealership a few years ago when I was in Golden. Thought it was really cool! As a side note, that dealership has had a reputation for the last ten years as full of Arseholes for a lack of a better word, wonder if that was the case back then!

That's pretty cool Madman! The guy I bought the truck from lived an hour from the dealership, so it may have spent its whole life in that area.

That dealership is full of arseholes! My mother tried getting a hold of them to see if maybe she could find an extra set of those dealership decals as a present for me for restoration in the future. She said everyone she talked to was rude and their parts house never called her back.

I tried buying a car from them one time, and they were really underhanded. Long story short, I went and bought a 2007 Shelby GT-500 just to drive through their lot to piss them off. It was worth every penny!
