help with headlight buckets

Post by jimmy828 »

I have trying to install the new head light buckets . I got the right side in and it fit good. Been having trouble with the left. The buckets came from DC but they sent 2 rights. After installing the right side which fit well i decided to try the other bucket that was stamped right side on the left but i could not get it center of the headlight door and it also puts the headlight in sideways when the light is installed. Called DC and they sent me another but it fits the same way, off center and headlight sideways. I decided to order the left side from LMC and when i got it there was a LH stamped on the inside. Went to install it and it fit exactly the same as DC which is off center and the headlight sideways. What in the heck am i doing wrong? Is the headlight on the drivers side suppose to be sideways? Is the bucket with the headlight suppose to be off center? Below is a couple of pics that will help show what i am talking about. The adjusting nuts are at the 3:00 & 6:00 position

Your not doing anything wrong. You will need to find original buckets. D.C. and LMC as well as other parts houses sell the buckets that were repopped. The bucket part number changed in 1970 and that's the bucket they sell. In other words you have R.H. and L.H. for 1970-71 &72
You really need to find originals.

looks like i'm going to have to find a used bucket since i'm not having any luck with this one. Both vendors tell me that it will fit a 69. I'm tired of fighting with it.

That's the part number, when they punch it in you get the ones you got.
I ordered a pair of NOS ones I put in the part number and I now have an NOS pair for 70-72
Fortunately I was able to find a pair of NOS ones for my NOS collection of Grille parts.
If I had an extra I would send it. Maybe you could ask the members here if anyone has a Pair they would part with.

Howdy!
Can't tell from your pictures but I think you forgot the springs. There are two springs, one per side, that keep tension on the bulb and ring so you can adjust the "aim" of the beams as you desire. I also have a matching set of headlight buckets I powder-coated flat black I can send you if you want to PM me your address. Will post pictures if needed.
Take care,
Joe
