gas tank color

I have a 1970 f100 The tank mounting bolts in the back of the cab are body color so it seems like the tank was in when painted at the factory. Does anyone know how tank came originally.

I'm pretty sure my 71 f100's tank was black from the factory. That's what I painted over when I did some painting inside.

Thanks. I wasn't sure. It looks like someone sprayed mine with undercoat after they tried to patch it.

I have heard some say that their tanks were black from the factory, but I have taken apart an original one owner 67 which had never been painted and the tank was white to match the body and interior. I have taken apart a few other bumps as well and the tanks on all of those trucks were the same as the interior color of the truck. So my experience has been that they were painted to match the interior of the truck, but again, some have come across black tanks.

The 67 and 69 I took apart had the gas tank painted the same as the truck. Both were unmolested originals.

O think tank color may have had something to do with trim package after 1970. Or it was that after 70. They were all black.

Makes me feel better about my 69. The fuel tank is the same color as my interior. But I was told the truck was repainted about 15 years ago, so I just guess they sprayed the tank at the same time.
