Bed side replacement

Post by jneely »

Hello,

I'm looking for some feedback and maybe some photos from those who have done it. I've spent a good bit of time searching the forum, without much luck. Not sure I'm using the correct terms, or maybe there just isn't much exposure out there.

I bought a complete replacement bedside from NPD for my 73 bed, and it was totally worth it. Installation was very straightforward in that instance.

I see that similar panels are offered for bump sides, but they don't have the original horizontal seam. There's also a disclaimer in the catalog about "not for collision repair." Since these early beds are constructed differently, I'd appreciate any feedback from anyone who's attempted a bedside replacement.

Thanks

I mean this in the nicest way. I really suggest you find a good shop and have them do it, if you haven't done it before. When you get into putting whole new panels on things can get tricky and it can go very wrong if not done correctly. It is just one of those things that I feel you shouldn't try to do your self with out experience. On the plus side if you go to a shop with the panels already bought it saves you money because they can't mark it up.anyways to sum it up think on it and make sure you want/can do it yourself, then come back for questions.

I plan on removing both of the bedsides on mine, to clean out the rust, and weld up the seam that runs betwen the upper and lower bedside. I'd really like to see what those replacement panels look like. Wonder what that means "not for collision repair". Then what are they for?
