69 Ford Camper Special Budget Project

Post by projectsamanthacampy »

I've got a 69 Ford F-250. Slowly doing little things to make her look pretty. I'll post progress pics and try to get as many before and after pictures for y'all. Not much of a photo taker but ill do my best. Look for some pictures and updates very soon. I'm ballin' on a budget here since I lost my job. But I can't give up on her (Samantha's the name of her). Enjoy. Thanks. :woohoo:

This is how she currently sits. I'll get more "all around" pictures of her bumps and bruises she carries with her. :)

Well, after checking multiple parts sites for a new dash, all of which priced it to be $100 not counting cross-country shipping) I decided to keep the all metal look... Looks kinda nice... I'll have to put vent covers over the holes where the defroster shoots out... Plus the speaker holes in the middle. But for now I'm actually digging the all metal dash.

Gave the ol' girl some love with a new fuel pump after she didn't start one morning. The old pump had a cracked diaphragm inside so it was shooting fuel out a small hole from the side...

Question: I bought a fuel filter for it, but I didn't have any idea where to put it... I.e. before the pump or from the pump to the carb so I just said screw it lined it all up without the filter (how it was before I took the old one off).
But as I put it all together, thought it was all tight, so I have it a go and started her up. Started leaking fuel for the threads... So I shut her off, removed and the thread pitch was a little different (odd I thought)

So I found the fuel filter and one end had threads... The same thread pitch as the pumps... So needless to say I screwed it in,hooked the line up to the end. But as I went to start it up, looked at the filter and their was a arrow that was facing <-- towards the pump... But fuel is flowing the opposite way, towards the carb... But I went and started the truck anyways and it is running just fine, no stalls on fuel flow. So now my question begins...

Is it bad to have my filter pointing the opposite way? If so how would this affect my carb/pump? Harmful? Nothing to worry about? Or minor? Any help will be nice. I can get a picture of what I'm talking about if needed.

Short Update: Finally getting around to my custom dash cluster, this is the dismantle... Removed all the gauges except the speedo. Going to do some cutting on the actual cluster for the custom gauges. Going to drill 4 - 2" holes and fit some custom brushed chrome gauges. Got the wiring and all ready for when I go to wire it all up. Post pictures tomorrow after I do some trimming a cuts. Wish me luck

Dash is coming along pretty good. Drilled holes and did a mock-up of what it looked like... Enjoying how its turning out. Might repraint the cover with chrome spray paint... Not sure though. Anyways this is what it's going to look like (minus the stock speedometer)

Looks awesome! Mask it off and paint it the same color as the crossbar. Argent silver.

Is that the color? Man I've been searching all over the Internet looking for that color scheme! Thanks a lot... Never mind the black or chrome, I'm using that color, Argent Silver. Thanks a lot.

I am not a big fan of our stock plastic dash or the way it looks, which is why I went the F600 dash route. But I have to say, what you are doing with yours makes me look at it with a whole new appreciation!! That mock up has soooo much potential!! What are you doing behind the 2nd and 3rd gauge pod where the areas are open? Are you going to close them off black like the areas behind the outer 2 pods? And if so, what are your plans to do that? That will look amazing when you are done!!

It almost makes me contemplate doing one myself and possibly someday replacing my F600 dash with your style. Probably not as I am already "done", but had I seen your idea (or come up with it on my own), I probably would have gone that route instead. AWESOME job!!

Thank you. My idea is for the lower pod to be illuminated by a short led strip (which of course would be done later) but the top pod where the speedo is going I'm putting the original speedo back in. I have to do some trimming on the case so it doesn't conflict with the back of each gauge. I'll post a pic of it below this message. Thanks a lot, and what does your gauge set up look like (if you don't mid sharing a picture)

This is the the old speedo and gauge compartment the is hide my behind the plastic dash cover (held up with 6 screws) I née to cut the empty holes out so it doesn't conflict with the new custom gauges but still allowing me to keep the old speedo to keep it somewhat original. Once I have it all trimmed and cut I can mock up the speedo with the rest o show you what I mean.
