So... I found this truck on craigslist listed for $1500.

I went and looked at the truck. It had been sitting the same spot for 7 years. Threw a battery in it. Poured a little gas down the carb, and it fired right up. It was cleaner than I expected. Got to talking the guy and we realized he and his father were customers of mine at my recently sold auto repair shop. I offered $800 for the truck. He said I could have it for $500. SOLD SIR.
Took the truck home and sold the camper the next day for $200. NICE!
$300 initial investment... not bad at all.
Further investigation in daylight showed the whole front end has been converted to a dual piston power disc brake and power steering set up from a 73 - 75 F250. Truck was originally Wimbledon White with a 352 and Cruise-o-Matic tranny. Those have been replaced 460 and fresh C6.
After a good pressure wash here's what I got for body panels:

Only rusted through spot on the whole truck is on the bottom/front of the passenger door and a 6" spot in the bed floor where water must have gotten trapped under the camper. There is some surface rust above the seem the bed but not bad. The underside of the truck is so clean! No cab rot whatsoever. LUCKY ME!!
Last Sunday Wyatt (my 4 year old son) and I spent all day in the garage. Yanked the engine and learned more about it.

Came out of a '73 Lincoln. Had a cam sprocket with nylon capped teeth and ALL the nylon was broken off and sitting the oil pan. It has never been rebuilt. Stock internals and everything looks decent.
Got the engine stripped down to the short block. I pulled just one piston for the now to see what I had. The pistons are originals.

So just for the record. I only have a very small single car garage to do this project. On top of that only half of my truck fits in there at a time ha ha (front or back only)... So don't let space hold you back if you don't have room to work on your truck!

Okay so after the motor was out my parts search began. I'm constantly on craigslist and ebay shopping for deals.
Got this Edelbrock 1411 750cfm with elec. choke new in the box for $120 (cost $350 or more from summit).

Found a set of D0VE heads (1970 429 heads with smaller combustion chamber and studded rockers) for $100

(trying to decide if I'm going to go stock on the valve train or splurge on a roller rocker set up. If I go roller rocker they're going to be comp cams spendy Ultra Pro Magnum XDs with 3/8" push rods... still haven't decided yet but I'm leaning towards the roller set up.. ANYWAY...
I ordered and new Cam Kit (High Energy .494/.494) from Summit for $390 and got it this week. Also got an adjustable pushrod length checking tool for when I get to that point.

So next up is the machine work. I need to get some money together and will be ordering my piston and ring kit first. Will be going .030" over with speed pro flat tops. With the higher compression d0ve heads I should be somewhere around 10.5:1 - 10.8:1 compression. I plan to port and polish the heads myself before taking those to the machine shop.
Welp... that's where I'm at so far. Updates will likely be slow. This is a poor mans build on a budget while keeping the quality as high as I possibly can. Remember I'm not building a show truck here guys BUT I am going to have something fast, loud, and fun to drive.
Thanks to everyone on here that has inspired me to get off my ass and get this thing going!
