I haven't done any measurements but it looks like the tailgate on my 64 looks identical to the one on my 68, is it?
If so which years inner change? I'm sure there's a tech article that mentions this; I just haven't looked.

I believe the earlier ones will mount up along with the 73-79's, but the FORD font is different.

The 64-66 tailgate will interchange with the 67-72 tailgates. The 64-66 has 2 cosmetic differences that I am aware of:
1. The font is different.
2. Near the top of the tailgate the 67-72 has a raised bump running from side to side similar to the bump on the sides of the truck (the part that makes them known as bumpsides). The 64-66 does not have a "bump" in this area but more of a step formed in the sheet metal of the tailgate.
