1967 f250 race truck

this is the start to the biggest project i have ever under taken, i have a 1967 ford f-250 ranger camper special, i got the truck for free because a old friend just didnt want to deal with it after it sat at my parents house for a few years. it is a 2wd with a 352 motor and a c6 trans. the motor blew a head gasket wayyyyyy back. thats why it was parked. so lets get started with the tear down.
here is what im starting with

its def a huge mess but its a complete truck, it has 3/4 tone equal length i beams, which is the reason for using this old truck, other than it looks super cool flying through the air too. not having to design the truck to run equal legth i beams is a huge thing and will make it a more budget friendly build.

we just ground out all the bed bolts since all of the bed minus the bed sides will be cut out to save weight, also the seats out and part of the dash is out.

since recently i put a new 460 in a 73 4wd ford getting the front clip off of this was no hassle looking for bolts and getting everything unhooked

got hte 352 out, we are going to take the powersteering off and try to make it work on whatever motor we put back in this thing. supposidly the trans was just rebuilt, judging by the oil color and tc condition i would agree that its been recently completely rebuilt.

and heres why i wanted to use this truck. equal length i beams!!! we are going to get some nice well tuned and usable travel out of this.

i have his build bookmarked, its how i found this website to begin with haha. that truck races the same series ill be racing in, i am hoping he is a pretty nice guy to talk to and can help me with my questions and all. his truck looks amazing.

okay, i didnt get the trans out but i got the suicide tank out, headliner, carpet, and allll of the dash out today. also i got the shocks out that we are thinking of using so we can see what our future holds.



getting the dash completely apart without cuttingany wires was not bad at all.

going to pick up tubing to build the roll cage next week on a day i get off work early enough, then once the cage is finished its on to rebuilding a 460fe we have. we are going with this motor because we want to run the truck out in the sand as well with some monster paddles. from what i understand the 460 block is the same as the smaller cubic inch blocks that you commonly see in race trucks, just different stroke/bore, and heads im guessing. also we are working on designing a cantalever suspension on the computer to use on the back of the truck. i know its more moving parts/ more that can go wrong, but its going to be cool and we feel we can keep it together as llong as we keep a close eye and inpsect all the parts.

The 460 isnt an FE block, parts will only interchange between the 429 and the 460. The FE is 352, 360, 390, 410, 428..... and im sure im missing a couple in between in there. The 460 is a good engine but certain years are prone to head problems, im not sure on the year range (im sure someone can fill in the blanks for me) The 390 or 428 is an awesome engine and performance upgrades are easy to find. But this is just all my , hopefully someone can confirm

I will third that one for sure i'm one of the guys interested in them. Your truck will be sweet but don't ditch the stuff that resto guys can use. Camper special badges lots of nice little things there... Be neat to see another big 250 racer

haha im not trashin anything, everything that i tack off is for sale, you just got to ask to see if its being sold.

and thanks, the 460 block we believe is a 70-74 ish motor, it blew a head gasket and hydrolocked/destroyed some of the valves/pistons.

first on the list though is going wednesday to get the cage tubing, 5.40 a foot for the 2" .120 wall. theres only one place around here who has it so im stuck paying it. how much tubing do you feel the cage will take? prob like 35-45'?

Looks like you are well on your way with this project. I think you are gonna need more than 45 feet for just a 4 point. I'm assuming you are going to cage the engine and bed as well, based on your coil-overs, so you'll need more for that. PM 1971ford and he'll likely point you in the right direction as far as a rough estimate. You might be able to have some tubing shipped direct freight to your house. That price is kinda steep.

What kind of bemder are you going to use?

Wow, that price... sucks!

Take the amount of tube you think you need and double it.
I dont know how much 2" .120 i have in just my cab cage but Im guessing 70 feet and my cage is fairly simple. Pick up a SCORE rule book and print out the VORRA rule book.

Figure just in the main hoop alone (hoop itself and the bracing inside) theres 30 feet right there.
Then you've got your a-pillar tubes, figure 7 feet each, your roof a-pillar connector tube, 5 feet, your dash tube, 5 feet, your door bars, 5 feet each, your roof tube(s), seatbelt tube if you're going to have an external main hoop.

Engine cage you'll want 4 connections to the cab cage through the firewall so it doesn't break off. Engine cage figure 40 feet for the engine cage (1.75x.120), that's about what i have in mine and mine is real simple. Almost too simple, i was going to add a couple more tubes.

Cutting it down to short bed or staying long bed?
