1970 F-100 father/son project

My son has been helping me with some of my trucks. currently have a 67 Chebby K20, a 68 Chebby panel wagon, just sold the 62 K10. The boy wanted a truck to fix up to be his first truck. I've had several of the old Fords, and found one that's been sitting, but has a fairly decent body. It's a 3 on the tree, with a 302. Beautifull grill and new bumpers front and back. Kind of ratty interior. We've had it home a couple of days now, and have done the following.
Removed the holley double pumper that was dumping gas into the oil....has a wiend intake, hope the edelbrock 1405 will work ok on it. Changed the oil and filter. Hooked up a battery, blinkers blink, headlights and highbeams work, fan blows, wipers wipe, brake lights work, park lights work. Horn does not. Put on an edelbrock 1405, shpt some go-juice down the throat and fired off on the 2nd try, 1 big backfire, then idles ok, revs ok. I'm going to try to put photos on here.
Is this just for updates, or can we ask for advice in this forum, too. We have some questions.

While digging through the glove box, found a registration sticker for 2005, and a safety inspection rejection for header gasket leak. 2004 are the stickers on the windshield. You can hear the header leak, too. I've never had anything but trouble from headers. Guess I can double gasket them, did that once before. The p side front brake is lockied up. It wants to move but pops then grabs again. Going to bang around on it with a mini-sledge in hopes it's some rust. I need to get it moved out of the way. Any suggestions on header gaskets and a sticking drum?

collector gasket or the flange on head? As far as the brake, try to go discs. Dont know if you know, but 73-79 beams and stuff will work on our trucks. Just swapped mine and love it. Well worth the effort and not too bad on the budget.

For now I just want to get it mobile. I need the spot where it sits now. It's the gasket at the manifold, p-side for sure maybe both. After finally finding the key for the wheel lock nuts, got the wheel off and have beat on the drum, to no avail. Wonder if i loosen the bleeder valve, will that relieve pressure to the shoes? Or maybe another problem?

I got a rear brake stuck on parts truck. Its worth trying what you mentioned. If no luck try to loosen adjuster. Its hard but possible. As far as the gasket, I have seen lock bolts for headers. Also, they make thick copper style gaskets that help. Hope this helps some.

Getting nostalgic in my old age. This is me in 1987, next to my 69 F-250 4x4 crew cab. 390, 4 spd granny, drove it from Alaska to Amarillo, Tx. Got 14 mpg. I wish, oh how I wish, I still had it. I'm sure it's a pile of rust particles somewhere now. Wasn't much of it left even then. Faces have been blotted out to protect the guilty.

Moved the truck under it's own power today. I never could free up that front brake to where I could turn it by hand, but was able to move it from the driveway. It's catching hard, popping a little, then rolls. I think both sides are doing it. It had a pretty good shudder to it, too. But it runs like champ.

Good project. Excellent way to spend father son time.

First pic looks like a good solid truck to work with. Nice trailer too btw.

As far as the front brakes being locked up it sounds like the shoes have stuck to the inside of the drum.
Now that you have it semi broke loose and can move the truck the "catching/popping" noise you hear is probably the shoe catching on that spot of the drum each time it rolls around. If it doesn't rip the shoe off the backing plate first it will eventually become less and less. Figure on new drums, shoes, spring kits, and wheel cylinders to correct that problem. That is unless you plan on a disk brake conversion which would be sweet.
