Casey,
Sounds like a good donor you got there. I had same idea and picked one up for my rebuild and have same issues, i.e. wehre that one has rust, mine doesn't and vice versa. Lots to learn from this website, for sure. busted my back yesterday removing the hood by myself, those suckers are heavy!! Have my front clip off and getting ready to pull the 302. keep us updated and hope you had a great birthday/1st day back to school!

Yea it is a very solid truck, at least in the places that are usually rusted out in our trucks, and think it's pretty interesting you found the same thing between your two trucks as far as rust in different locations go. I thought it was kind of odd that one truck could rust in one place but not in another where these trucks most commonly rustMadsen1970F100 wrote:Casey,

Re: Project '71 F-100 Update: 8/23 New '67 Parts Truck!
Well I went fishing all day Saturday
, so I didn't get any work done on the truck then, however we were reeling in Spanish like it was going out of style
. I did get a chance to do some work after church today
. I did the following:
-Removed the rear tail-light lenses/housings/bezels
-Removed the side-view mirrors
-Removed the F-100 Hood-emblems
-Removed the last piece of ranger belt-line trim
-Removed the Driver's side door-panel would've gotten Passenger's side too but PO decided after installing the window crank that it'd be a good idea to fill the hole/screw with cement of some sort
-Removed about 25 feet of wiring that didn't go to anything and I sorted out the wiring in the truck and figured out where everything went
-Fixed the temperature control valve and got it moving just needed some white-lithium grease
-Pulled the instrument cluster, ash tray & glove box door
-Pulled the in cab tank
-Removed the side window visors and the horribly done rear window tint
Probably did a bit more I'm not thinking about, I would've pulled the truck into the shop to yank out the front/rear windshields and side glass/vent windows but after I let the '71 warm up and got in it to move it I gave it a bit of gas and it cut off, she's flat outta gas
. Anyways the next step will probably be to move the '71 outside and throw a tarp over her for the time being, and park the '67 inside so I can remove the glass/trim and start doing body work. I'm going to get my dad to run by the welding supply house in town when he's at work tomorrow to get a liner for my welder so I can hopefully start doing some sheet-metal work here shortly. Also I did a little bit of asking around looking for a job, still no luck nobody's hiring right now for the most part so my chances of getting a job are pretty slim
. Will try and keep you guys updated once a week though as long as something gets done! I will try and get some more pictures once more things get stripped out
.

Re: Project '71 F-100 Update: 8/29 Started Gutting Donor truck!
No pictures yet but I've done a few small things so far this summer. So far I've:cheek wrote:Any updates on this Casey???
-Swapped the hood from the '67 to the '71 as it is nearly rust free
-Sat the '71's bed back on the chassis. I've yet to decide what to do as far as which bed to use to repair the other
-Swapped the passenger's side inner fender from the '67 into the '71 as it was much more solid than mine
-Pulled the 3.03 3 speed from the '67 (planning on swapping it into the '71 in place of the T-18)
Also earlier today when I went into town to get some U-bolts for my "other" project I picked up some gear oil for the 3-speed. I was off most of the day today and will be off tomorrow so hopefully after I get the rear suspension put back under the Z71 I can drop the T-18 out of the '71 and bolt the 3 speed up and swap columns. As of now the plan is to get the truck street legal and work on it slowly over the summer and wait until next year (early spring probably maybe only later this year sometime after I get my license) to really start getting into the project again.
I apologize for the slow progress guys but I've been putting a considerable amount of my money into the Chebby lately and will probably be spending more money on it this summer than the Ford since I plan on lifting it 4-6" before I get my license. If you guys wanna see some of the progress on that truck then I'd be happy to post it up as it comes along.

Well yesterday I managed to pull the 3 speed column from the parts truck and pull the T-18 from the '71 and bolt the 3 speed in place. Unfortunately I had to work today and will be working tomorrow also so the column swap and putting in the driveshaft and new u joints and all of that good stuff will have to wait until the weekend. Stay tuned for pics, should have them up by tomorrow.

Re: Project '71 F-100 Update: 6/18 3 Speed Swap Completed
![Cool 8)](./images/smilies/icon_cool.gif)
-Installed the 3 speed column from the '67 (I'm really diggin' the 3-on-the-tree setup, I've driven a few other vehicles that way too and liked them but it just feels so right in the bump
![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
-Filled the tranny with fresh Lucas gear-oil
-Installed new U-joints on drives-shaft and installed it
-Drove the truck through the yard and down our street (tranny shifts great and I really like having a true first gear)
-Did a little sanding on the hood
-Gave the truck a bath and cleaned all of the junk out of the bed
Sorry I never posted pics, and still haven't. I can't seem to find the cable to the camera but I'll be sure to post them all up as soon as I do.
I would like to within the next month or so:
-Get the hood sanded down to bare metal, and get it fairly straight and primered up
-Sand the fenders down and do the same (chose to tackle the front clip first since fenders and hood are in pretty good shape)
-Finish plumbing the brakes
-Front wheel cylinders, hardware and shoes (already have the shoes waiting to go on from when I bought the rears)
-Get all of the lights, signals and all of that good stuff functioning again
-Figure out something to do with the roof of the '71 since it's gotten so much rust on the drip rail. I'm strongly considering either grafting the roof of the '67 on there or getting someone to do so. Also I'll finish up the floor pans in that cab.
-Also need to figure out what to do as far as a bed, I think I will be taking the '67 bed since the outside looks really good and focusing on bodywork on the outside of the bed, leaving the bed floor/walls to be dealt with a little later.
-Do something with holes in bottom corner of doors, probably use other set of doors to patch them.
Basically I would like to have the truck back together and street legal/presentable within the next month or so, hopefully I'll be able to balance my two projects out enough to get the Ford back on the road by the end of summer, or at least before I get my license in October
![Driving :drive:](./images/smilies/icon_steering.gif)
Stay tuned guys........

Re: Project '71 F-100 Update: 6/14 Back At It Again!
Also today I made a trip to Napa and picked up/ordered some parts for the bump. I ordered the wheel cylinders, brake hoses and the hardware kit for the brakes up front to go with the shoes I bought last summer and bought 5 qts. of Rotella, an oil-filter and a bunch of random odds and ends to tune the truck up a bit (all new dizzy guts, fuel filter, air filter, coil all of that good stuff) and plan on getting a carb kit when I get a chance. Forgot to get one while I was there.

Good work Casey! It's awesome buying new parts for your project. So exciting
! If you don't mind me asking how much did it all cost? Today I spent $285 on one drum brake, two wheel cylinders and a seat of rear brake shoes.. None of which made in the US or anywhere decent!

Re: Project '71 F-100 Update: 6/23 Pics of Finished Tranny Swap!
I think we're probably at about the same point except you seem to have started on the body-work first. Can't wait to see that 460 swapped in your truckFoPAR wrote:Can only wish I was as far as you, keep plugging away

Thanks Cheek! Sure is fun buying parts. I've got receipts for everything I've bought for the truck since I got it but as far as the last two trips to Napa for all of the tune-up stuff and front brake hardware (everything minus shoes, already had them) I spent around $155-160 or so. As far as just the front brakes went though it only ran me about $70 total for wheel cylinders, hardware, brake-hoses and shoes. I would offer to buy you parts here and ship them but that would probably still work out to be the same price you're already paying over therecheek wrote:Good work Casey! As far as work today goes I ended up working so I only got to spend a little while on the truck. I managed to change the oil+filter, the fuel filter, the air filter, the coil, dizzy cap, rotor, condenser, points, breaker plate and let it run for a while/drive down our street. I must say, a major improvement, after the carb is rebuilt and I get a heavier return spring (noticed that was the issue today with me getting the idle where I wanted it, with the tired spring on there now I can pull the throttle to where I want it to idle but after I give it gas it returns to idling at 1k since the spring isn't strong enough) it should be running near perfect! I also managed to pick up all of the brake parts today, should be installing them tomorrow and will post pics of both today's and tomorrow's progress sometime then, stay tuned!
