One thing I will suggest is buy some Total Seal rings with the gapless second ring, not affiliated but they have survived on my blown 302 for 80k miles, no smoke or blowby. Amazing difference vs. standard rings, I've used them on about a dozen engine builds over trhe years.

Ranchero50,

Thanks for the Pro Tip. I actually decided to go ahead and bore to .030 over to correct an imperfection in #2. It wasn't a big deal, and the shop said i could stay stock bore for awhile. I figure fix the issue now while its all apart to keep from having to do it later.

As such, new pistons were ordered in the new size and for the rings I took your advice and picked up a set of Total Seals.

That said, I've had the brand new stock size pistons and rings for nearly a year. Uninstalled, still in boxes. They're for sale if anyone needs em ;) I'll post a thread in the FS section as well.

Well everyone, the great brown santa hath delivered to me today.

My reman Edelbrock 1405 came in. Looks purty! I got it on ebay from National Carb. in Florida.
$160 An Edelbrock reman from Summit was only $20 less than a brand new one!

Also in the shipment were my new .030 pistons and total seal rings. Alone with hearers, and new pipes and mufflers to run true dual exhaust.

My plan for the exhaust is to hack the pipes down and dump the mufflers out under the cab instead of running all the way to the rear. I had a 65 Mustang done like this and the sound was perfection. But i have full length pipes so I may end up just running them to the rear for simplicity. We'll see.

The machine shop should finish the bore very soon. Then I'll be posting pics and hopefully a first fire video on open headers :D

Stay tuned!
