progress on my new bumper:

Since I got this bumper from an eighties ford truck it won't fit on my truck. I measured the frame on my f100 and it is 34 inches. The new bumper is 38 inches across between the mounting brackets. I figured a 2 inch piece of angle iron would work to fill the gap. Today I found a 2x2 square piece of tube. It was a little shorter than I wanted at 15 inches. I cut it in half with my hack saw. Now I got to mark and drill some holes to mount one side to the frame and the other side to the new bumper.


Here is my new bumper with a couple of coats of primer and a couple of coats of white paint. I just washed it really good at the car wash and used some purple power on it. Hopefully the paint will stick pretty well.

Amazing how you turned, what appears to be a piece of crap, into a good lookin' rear bumper!

Most bumpers have a little twist or other kind of dent or bend in them. I looked really close and didn't see any damage so I thought it would clean up pretty good. I don't know if I really like the white but I'll wait to see what it looks like on the truck.

This evening I removed the old bumper and mounted my new one! I drilled a 1/2 inch hole all the way through the end of each of my 2x2 square tubing. Then put a 3 inch long bolt through the frame the tubing and bumper bracket on each side. I used existing holes in the frame. I am not finished mounting it. I need to add at least add 2 more bolts. Maybe even reposition the whole thing. I got dirt all over it from my hands on the bumper. It will undoubtedly get more dirt and scrapes over time and start to blend in with the truck more. Um, I got a couple of hubcaps today also to match the two original ones that came with the truck. They are not perfect but in a little bit better condition than the ones I have and set me back $22.50 each.
