Re: Project 67
Thank you guys. It is fun for me to work on to tell you the truth. I am at the back of the truck moving around to the other side to start on the body work. Plans are in the works for taking off the bed, that I can not wait for, I have a lot of plans for the rear of the truck, but i am leaving is mostly stock right now.
I have to rebuild all the breaks though they are not that bad right now. New pics coming soon

Re: Project 67
No pics this time around, but I have a plan in mind. I hate the door panels with a passion, and to buy ones off LMC or any other company is to much money for my budget rebuild. So here is what I am going to do. With the door panels looking bulky and I hate them being metal, I am going with 1/8 inch tempered masonite. Trace the panel, cut it out and cover it with black anogahide (spelled wrong I think) with a little foam padding behind it. The screws will be replaced with SS ones coated with clear, and a nice half round washer to top off the clean look. I will post progress and pics when I start that little project, It will turn out great I know it. Total cost
Masonite 4x8 sheet $12
Anogahide $30-$40

Re: Project 67
Not much to put out there today, due to the weather and rain. Still doing body work due to money being tight but I am ording floor plates so I can get the rusted out floor of the cab replaced. Once that is done, I can start getting the inside worked on and show some real progress.

Interesting idea for the door panel. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

I can say with a big grin on my face that I just ordered new floor steel for my cab. Now I can get some real work done. I will be working on it first thing in the morning and I will post before pics and after pics of the prep work. Then I will post after after pics with the new floor installed.

Re: Project 67
Ok, so a little progress in the paint coming off task. As you can see in pic 1, there is not a lot of rust under the paint on the hood, and that is a good thing. I am not finding much rust under the paint at all no matter where I sand. The second pic will be my wheel hub cap choice. The rims will be stock 15 inch powdercoated black with those 50s vintage caps.

I like your choice for the wheels and caps. Glad to hear about the lack of rust for you too!

Re: Project 67
Monday 1-10-11 the plan is to get the gas tank drained and out of the cab, clean it up and paint it. Also get behind the gas tank preped and painted also. I plan to use paint stripper instead of all that sanding, but I will have to sand a little here and there. Got the new floor pans in, so I will be fitting those and trimming those up as needed and getting the old rusted out ones ready to get cut out. I have contacted the welder to set up a time he can come over and just weld it up fast, so that leaves the prep work to me, which is not that hard. Everything on the outside of the truck is on hold till I get the cab started with all the bodywork and welding. From there I am going to get the whole cab done I think.

Re: Project 67
Good luck man. I have used chemical strippers in the Marines and that stuff is No Joke. We used Crest Chemical Stripper I believe. If what you use is anything like it make sure not to get Any on your skin, wear a respirator, and have plenty of ventilation. Before you put any primer / paint on the metal make sure it is cleaned really well to get the residue off of the bare metal. If any is left on it or in nooks or crannies it could damage the paint.

I am useing this nice goopy stripper i got at wal-mart. It takes the paint right off, but I wait 15 min and it does a good job. Trying to figure out how to best drain the gas tank so I can get it out. It only has about 1/4 tank right now.

Thank you, I like that clean stock look. I spent weeks looking for the right kind of hub caps. I measured, and re measured to make sure of the size. I think these are 50s era.

Re: Project 67
Ok, time for an update with pics. The first set is the DS tailight. I worked on this all day, patching the holes and fixing a dent at the bottom. Got it almost were I wanted it before I was running out of day light. I did manage to get the gas tank out and cleaned up behind it the best I could. I took a page from another guy on here, and coated it with a spray in bed liner, but only behind the tank (second set of pics) I will coat the tank in this stuff as well and put it back in soon. It is not what I want for the cab, but I can not remove it, I just do not have the tools to do it. All the garbage went into the bottom corners of the cab. I am going to cut the rusted out corners out so I will get a chance to clean the crap out of there.
