THEN I FELL IN LOVE.
Wish like heck I had taken pictures then. Just got a new camera, looking to do pics tomorrow after the wheel cylinders get replaced.
Anyway, I bought her for $400 -- Bad, bald, rotting 16.5 tires on budd rims, No spare, a few broken grease zerks. She had bad plugs, points, condenser and wires. Differential was almost empty and what there was was thick as mud and chunky. Tow hitch was missing. No horns, no horn relay. Leaking brake booster and both rear wheel cylinders and all the rear brake lines leaked. 2 Busted exhaust manifold bolts (classic, yes?) NO TAILGATE, no jack, no lug wrench. Most of her lighting system was not working and several signal bezels were cracked or just gone. Rust in the cab corners. Headliner was moldy and cracked. Weatherstripping was nonexistent. No key for the door locks. She idled badly at 1100 rpm or not at all and backfired often. Oil all over the manifold and down the block too.
Starter and coil dying, voltage regulator was the FACTORY UNIT, Carb was varnished to crap and leaking, with air filter and housing missing. God only knows how old the oil was in the engine. It smelled kinda like gear oil and was jet black and lumpy. Seats ripped to hell, instrument cluster smashed up, cracked dash.
Exhaust leaks everywhere...hole in muffler -- noisy Ujoints... she was a mess and hurting badly and I had my girlfriend thinking I was nuts when I handed over the cash. The body is straight as an arrow though and the tranny works beautifully from day one except for the broken linkage a few weeks ago.
The above save the exhaust and wheel cylinders, booster are pretty much dealt with and I can post pics now. I am starting to feel like I actually can begin to make a recording of my progress. I was a bit embarrassed at first and felt a bit stupid but I am feeling o.k. now. Trying to pay more attention to where I post, sorry about that
