Cool thing John
That mod looks like ford would have used it if they ad it in 67-79.
Hey grant, what does the harness for the mod motor consist of? does it couple the stock wiring to the mod and i'm guesing its a one wire alternator with built in regulator.

Too bad you project is taking so long. Have you done any work at all on it since your last post? I figured the 'zine would have had you keep working on it to keep the feature articles coming. I subscribed for 2 years because of your build, but let it laps because the project was no longer being featured. All of us have unfinished projects of our own. We want to live vicariously through the media. That's why we subscribe to 'zines and watch Powerblock every Sunday. Please keep this project going. I am more than anxious to see the finished product someday.

Re: CLASSIC TRUCKS MAGAZINE '68 F-100
Grant has moved on to another magazine but vowed to finish the truck.
That was quite a few months ago.
I think that was when Rizzo took over.
I've often wondered when they do a magazine build like this one, whom does the vehicle actually belong to?
Does the magazine buy the vehicle and the parts or does the person writing the story own the vehicle and parts?
Anyone know?

First off, I didn't know he moved on. And your question is a good one. I assumed the 'zine would foot the bill since it is material for their publication.

Re: CLASSIC TRUCKS MAGAZINE '68 F-100
Hello everyone!
Been quite some time i know...with all the things i was (and am) juggling over the last few years i just haven't had the time for extra time on the computer. I still have the truck, no it's not done, yes it is close. I do own the truck, i bought it, did all the work, etc and will finish it.
It is true i have moved on and even though i am with the same company i basically work for Car Craft and Hot Rod now. I run a 9000 sq/ft shop that the company owns were we do tech stories in house and i am here to do the labor and less of the photos and writing. I will still submit stories to Classic Trucks when the oportunity arrises. Jim Rizzo who took over for Rob Fortier is a great guy and a real home grown Do it yourselfer. Wes who i found to replace me is on the younger side (like me, or at least like i used to be) and is a great mechanic and photographer with a lot of good new ideas. I think those two will do well together.
My '68 is here in the shop with me and as soon as i have time (i just finished my '72 C***Y which feels good) i will get the F-100 knocked out. we have some exciting things going in the shop, i have to build a '69 camaro, that is a bare shell right now, by x-mas, there's also a '71 Demon drag car we are doing with Car Craft that will be fun with a twin turbo small block. Also working on the Hot Rod Crusher Camaro and Freiburgers Super Bee.
I am also going back to Japan this year for the Mooneyes show in Yokohama as a guest along with my Harley Shovelhead i built and was recently featured in Street Chopper. So i would guess i'll be back on the bumpside in January after all this madness in the next couple of months.
Thanks for everyone's support through all this, learned a whole lot here!
if you don't see me here you can still email me at grant.peterson@sorc.com
thanks,
Grant

Re: CLASSIC TRUCKS MAGAZINE '68 F-100
Thanks for the update Grant.
When you get free to work on the "Bump" again please post the progress here for us hungry Bump fans.
I hate to say it but I'm letting my subscription to Classic Trucks run out because your Bump is not in it anymore and there are too many Chevies in it now.
Good luck and feel free to drop in here anytime.
Also is there any way to post your previous progress here permantly.
Some of your photos have disappeared.
Later Dude,Calvin

Re: CLASSIC TRUCKS MAGAZINE '68 F-100
Glad you liked the build, sorry you are letting the mag sub slip.
This isn't directed at you Clavin, but a blanket statement on the subject since you brought it up. I guess there's a lot of people out there that are so brand loyal that they can't see the forrest for neat old trucks, cars, bikes, or whatever. we at classic trucks always made it a point to have a healthy mix of chevy and fords with the occasional off brands when we could find nice ones. everyonce in a while there is a month where there would be one more chevy than ford or visa versa, but trust me when i say it was always aimed to be even. I know, i sat through lots of meetings and such on the subject.
I think it's kind of a shame to have blinders like this on becasue you miss the oportunity to learn. Learning has always been one of the things i loved most about working with mechanical things since a young age. I have owned vehicles with badges from chevy, ford, buick, studebaker, dodge, the majority being 1959 and older, all the way to 1927. Built lots of prewar Ford hot rods and post war ford and chevy customs before going "late model" when i bought a '59 Dodge D-100 to use as a daily driver. Sure i've owned stuff from the '60s and '70s since and even had a '94 Chevy 1500 with a V6 and a 5 speed that had close to 300K on all the original stuff when i sold it becasue of my job transfer. love that truck.
Anyway, take it for what it's worth. i know many of you will never sway or own anything related to a bow-tie, but don't cut your nose off to spite your face and miss out on an opportunity to learn something new. That is why i wanted to build my '68 F-100 in the first place! to learn something new and to do something with a truck i never would have thought twice about owning prior to this. And i'm not saying you should all subscribe to classic trucks because i don't work for them anymore, just saying it in general. Hope this doesn't get too many people's feathers in a bunch, but if it does that means i made you think about it!

Re: CLASSIC TRUCKS MAGAZINE '68 F-100
Grant, when you decided to build your truck, it was so unexpected to those of us who like the 67-72 Ford. While there may be an even mix of brands, we just don't see many 67-72 Fords in anyone's magazines. I, for one, don't see an old Ford with a Chevy engine and front clip as a Ford entry. I know everyone builds what they can, but I still don't and never will buy into the decades old 350-350 swap into a Ford anymore than a 302-C4 swap into a Chevy. A Caddy, a Hemi, a vintage Olds engine maybe. I want to see your truck finished like everyone else, but it sounds like it is on the way back burner. Good luck in your new endeavors and hopefully, we will see the truck finished. Thanks.
