Re: 1969 F250 4x4 Highboy 10/3 On trailer
I've got one thing to say....
IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT!!!
I get there to pick it up and the desk lady tells me the person who quoted the price of the chassis made a big mistake. I thought uh-oh....
She says that the estimate of $450 was way too low, beacuse the works had to put 8 hours into the thing! She said the price really came about to about $750, but I was able to pay the quoted amount of $450.
They covered up everything that needed to be covered and did a ridiculously good job. I have yet to find one spec of rust. I've looked in between the hanger and frame where you just can't get at with anything, and it is stripped!! I can't believe it. You can look in any nook/cranny and you'll see clean frame. Now it's a matter of me doing as good of a job getting por-15 in the tight spots!
I'd eat food off it any day
If you click the pics they become larger
This should be fully installed tomorrow, atleast most of the way
Dang bushings. Forgot about t-case bushings. I ordered new ones... $80, but thats ok because i was going to spend that $80 on a new body bushing kit until a guy on another forum sent me a set of brand new body bushings! woo!
Check it out. I pulled this huge piece of grease and mud off the 4x4 frame and I chisseled out a t-case!
A couple hundred dollars worth of por-15 and por-15 accessories
Spent LOTS of time de-greasing the engine, transmissing, transfer case, brackets, steering, etc.

I am surprised you dont have it all painted and put back together all ready. Seriously it looks good and I cant wait to see it finished.

Re: 1969 F250 4x4 Highboy 10/14 Sandblasted!!!
Thanks
yeah it probably would be painted now if it wasn't for the metal ready needing a full day to dry
Chassis will be painted and back together Sunday. I should have the engine and transmission painted and back on the chassis sunday too. Hopefully the cab and front clip too. Bed will probably stay off for another month as I build a hitch and install the mustang tank and get a bumper mounted. I want to get the bed sandblasted inside as well so i'll probably be driving bedless for a while.

Re: 1969 F250 4x4 Highboy 10/14 Sandblasted!!!
Thanks! I used a lot of "Holy Cow" degreaser on everything, and a ton of rags. Scrub scrub scrub!
Then when degreased the engine as final step before I paint it with the por-15 kit, i used the marine clean and that stuff is ridiculous! It will take anything off in a second!
Sooooo you may have noticed... i'm posting this at 5:26 in the morning. Why am i up so late (early)?
Stayed up all night to paint the chassis of course!

Re: 1969 F250 4x4 Highboy 10/14 Sandblasted!!!
That looks great! It's so much easier to let the pros do the blasting, I did a car in my garage once and I'll never do it again, no matter how well you seal and protect everything or how much you save it's not worth it.
I just had a bed done and had them use a softer media, price was $300.00

Are you spraying or brushing the por 15? Ive done both but I think I prefer spraying as it gives a better final finish.
I'm sure it's gonna look great no matter what though

Re: 1969 F250 4x4 Highboy 10/14 Sandblasted!!!
I brushed it on, i don't like the idea of spraying just because of overspray (waste of por-15 and gets on everything and will never come off).
Having someone sandblast your stuff professionally sure is nice
Sooooo I'm an idiot. I didn't wear a long sleeve shirt or a hat. My arms were covered in por-15 but i just "sanded them down" with a scrotch brite pad and most of it is off but there is still a lot!
My hair is por-15'd together form being under the chassis. I'll probably have to shave it

Re: 1969 F250 4x4 Highboy 10/14 Sandblasted!!!
I should of gotten a picture. The shirt and pants i was wearing are black now, my arms still have por-15 all over them (about to go to work too), my hair has por-15 and i'm going to have to get nearly shaved tomorrow to get it all out
Chassis and misc. stuff is all painted, Engine has been coated in por-15 enemal kit, tranny painted, t-case painted, chassis assembly started. I'll probably drop the drivetrain in tonight.
I got my new NPD t-case bushings

Re: 1969 F250 4x4 Highboy 10/14 Sandblasted!!!
The steps involved in that transformation...
I can't even remember half the stuff I did.
I stayed up all night painting. Watched the sun go down, AND come back up.
The t-case isn't as orange as it looks (camera flash). It's a factory rust primer color.
I rolled the sandblasted chassis out while it was sunny. Took some pictures, cleaned it, metal-ready, rinsed, ready for por-15.
Then I layed down the primer coat on the engine, followed by the ford blue later in the day.
Painted the t-case, tranny, drive shafts, other stuff and bellhousing.
New t-case bushings. The old bushings were absolutely destroyed. These should do the trick.
Before painting
Other stuff:
Installed wiring, speedo cable, tranny/clutch/t-case linkages, driveshafts, steering box/linkage, trimmed steering column shaft and fitted '69 steering wheel and painted, layed down two more rolls of sound deading in the cab, painted the firewall black (I'm painting the column/firewall black so i can easily change colors of the truck if i want in the future)
I didn't meet my shooting for the stars goal of getting the cab on today, but i was surprisingly close. The only reason i didn't drop it back on today was because it started raining (first time this year) and my dad was tired from cutting down trees. This week the cab/front clip/hood will be back on and I'll get everything hooked up.
It has started to rain here, so I NEEEEED to get this truck done ASAP. My '71 + rain + current tires = death trap.
BUt hte chassis is 95% done... cab/ front clip/hood will be on with 2 hours time, and then a few days to hook everything up. This '69 should be my daily driver by Halloween
