70 F100 460 C-6 swap
OK Ive made up my mind. I gotta do it. I got this truck after it had sat for 6 years at the neighbors house. The 302 and C-4 are fine. But i just stumbled upon an 88 E350 van with a perfectly running 460 and C-6 auto. Ive don't a few hours of research and seen I need a smaller style brake booster and steering box. But i still don't know a fraction of what i need too. Will the engine perches from the van work? The van is EFI. Will an older style carb and intake bolt right up? And when did they quit with the points style ignition on 460s? Id like to either find a points dizzy, or see about just putting a pertronic in the van dizzy. Can i do that? Im not doing any mods to the motor. Even gonna try and use the vans exhaust manifolds if i can. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Oh ya... And what is involved in going from a C-4 to a C-6? I dont need answers right away cause i cant even get the van till Friday. But i will read everything i can find till then. thanks

I can't help you on what it will take for the change as I don't know the bump that well. But you will like it, I just pulled the 302 , truck 4/sp out of my 79 F-100 and replaced with a 460 , C/6 , 3:50 rear gears. Big difference and m.p.g. is not much worse, never good in our trucks. JIM

ya ive had a few 1 ton trucks with the 460 and they still hauled ass for how heavy they were. Should scream in a half ton.
The dude im getting the motor from decided he needed to talk to his wife about it for some reason and now the price went up like $300 for the van. FML. So it could be a few more weeks before i get it.

maybe i will just use the EFI. I still have one of the dealer added tanks in the bed i could mount an electric fuel pump in... Would be a lot more efficient then a carb also... Now i have to find a carb'd one or try and talk myself into the EFI swap. This could be a ruff one.

To run the EFI, you'll need the engine harness and PCM from the E350 and find a place to mount the PCM and route the wire loom. More hassle than it's worth, IMO. Plus the engine mounts and perches out of the van will not work in your truck.

well, I'm getting the whole van, so having the harness and whatnot isn't a problem...

Don't plan on the fuel injected 460 to get good M.P.G. I have one thats kept tuned up all of the time and it's not very good ,even with overdrive,compared to my old 79 with the holley carb. The fuel injected one is taken in to shops to keep it tuned , due to I can't tune fuel injection. The old 79 has never been in a real shop since I got it and it runs better than the newer one.
