I had a 77 Aspen I put a 440 & an A-833 in. A real sleeper after a 225 & a 3spd.
I'll bet!!! to jump from a slant six to a 440 bb, wow that would be a big difference. My Aspen R/T is running a 450 hp small block 360 with a 4 speed, tons of fun!!! puts you right back in your seat and you can do the whole tape a $100.00 to the dash and dare the passenger if they can reach it they can have it bit.
I don't even have the 8-3/4 rear in it yet with the 3.91's that I want to run. I think it's only got 3.23 in it now.

I blew up the 7 1/4 with the 225 and the 4spd. The 8 1/4 held up well till I put the 440 in it. I put an 8 3/4 w/ a tapered pinion and I held up for a while. The straight pinion is the way to go. Nobody realizes how easy it is to modify those cars. The dipolmat, lebaron and mirada are all the same chassis.

I know what your talking about, my 1st car was a 76 Plymouth Volare (same thing as an Aspen) and it had a 7-1/4 but with a 318 in it. Went through 3 rear ends befor I found an 8-1/4 to run in it and it's held up fine behind a mild built 318. I don't know why they ever put those 7-1/4's with a V8 :hmm: Here is a link to my Aspen/Volare site I'm on http://www.aspenrt.com/ Some very cool and fast cars on there. I have an 8-1/4 in the aspen right now with the 8-3/4 waiting for the 8-1/4 to go boom!

So time to fire back up my project post, I've been busy with other things but still check in from time to time. I pulled the ol 77 Lincoln Mark V into the shop and started disassembly. Dang almost filled a one gallon bucket with bolts from just the front end of this car and still couldn't get it to come apart. Dam cars built like a tank  Finally got everything out of the way and yanked the 460 and C6 out. That was fun!!! :hd:

So after joining this site over 2 years ago I can finally say that I have started my truck project :woohoo: I pushed the 72 into the shop yesterday and started the teardown today. A little more floor rust was hiding under the floor mats than what I thought :( , but no big deal will just have to add it to the list of things to do. Also glad to say only 3 broken bolts so far and 2 of them I expected to have trouble with (radiator core support, body mount bolts) oh and one broken socket “oops” oh well, no broken knuckles yet so I guess we’re all good then. The plan is to make it into a short bed (like every one else is  ) and to do the best frame off restoration that I can afford, and then just have fun driving it :drive: . It won’t be a show truck but somewhere around a hot rod / almost show truck…….. at least I hope….. heres a few pics so far.

I know way off topic for this forum but my favorite MOPARs would be the 1970 Challenger RT convertible, 1971 Cuda, a blend car between the 1970 & 1971 Challenger RTs ('71 quarter scoops, chin spoilers, rear wing, RT hood, convertible, 426 HEMI, 4spd pistol grip shifter, Plum Crazy w/ black top and interior, 150 mph speedo with factory tach, AM/FM/8 Track (factory), manual brakes, manual steering, no A/C, pinion snubber) I think that covers it.

Yeah, I have to agree Mopar cars are where it’s at  really love the ol mopars. The trucks not so much but hell yeah on the cars. My Aspen and Volare are not part of the “cool kids” group but that’s why I like them, you don’t see to many of them fixed up and they get a lot of attention when I take them out. As for the 72 Ford I got the cab off the frame last night and will be working to get the rusted bed bolts out tonight. Very surprised by how easy the cab bolts came out, very little rust and easy to turn. Guess I got lucky with those but not so much with the bed bolts, rusted big time. :pout: Will most likely have to break out the grinder for those.
