I done that with one of the earlier videos (I think the 1st or 2nd one). But since most of my students are between the age of 15-19 most are minors and I got called on the carpet by my principal for that video I had some of the students on. In fact I was suppose to of taken that one off you tube by now but have not had the time to cut and edit them out of that one. My principal dose get on the internet so I'm not in a big hurry. That being said I can put the ones on that get there parents to sign a release form but when I give them one most don't make it to there parents(teenagers!). Some of my more reliable kid have bough them back so I will try to have one with them in one. As far as the drain tube on the evap we modified the clam shell that came out of the donor car that was around the evap. I will just run a hose from the original drain port that was left in the modified clam shell through floor some where. We really need the drain tube on the AC he in Alabama with our humidity. On a hot Alabama summer day when you are running your AC here. There is so much water coming out of the car and trucks it looks like they have a bad coolant leak. I would of loved to of boxed it in the way you described. The way you boxed yours looks great. But the only welder I have access to is a small wire one that we borrow from the body shop class next door and our shop for our welding class has no space to pull something as big as my truck in it and none of there welders can be moved easily. So I left as much of the old cross member inside the frame rail as I could with out it sticking out for strength. I hope that the channel that we put in there will put more strength in the frame as well. It doesn't look very pretty but I think it will get the job done with the resources we have to make due with at the school. The tubing is about somewhere between 1/4" to 5/16" thick. My thinking was a cylinder is suppose one of the strongest shapes. The pedestals made to the cross member for the motor mounts don't allow for much room so I had to come up with a spacer that gave the most strength in that small area. We put some 1/4" plates cut down to the size of the top of the pedestals in between the top of that and the bottom of the tubing. We done this to keep the bottom of the tubing with the weight of the engine beating a round groves into the top of those aluminum pedestals thus distributing the weight more evenly across the top. I am not an automotive engineer just an old grease monkey trying to help kids to have a foundation for a skill so I may be wrong on the way I have done this. We will see if I am we will go be and fix it and count it as education for me and my students. The engine had to be raised up in some manner since we raised the frame from the cross member to get close to the stock height. I have not though about the weight distribution but you make a good point. The reason we put it where we did was the cross member for the trans didn't have to be moved from where it was when it had had the 240 with the 3 on the tree. I guess I got a little lazy when it came to that. Maybe since it is a long wheel base will off set that a little. I wonder what the weight different is between the 240 and the 4.6. The 240 is all iron nearly and the 4.6 has aluminum heads and a plastic intake but is a V-8 so who knows.carcrafter22 wrote:Cool, I like that your modded it to keep the stock ride height. Well I all ready had the 4.6 (with only 50k MI on it) plus I was looking for something with a good power to MPG balance. However since most 5.4 come in trucks to start with I think it would work great in yours.
