Thanks guys! It's hard for me to say howmuch I'm thinning the paint, as I'm really just doing it by feel. I thin it enough to spray nicely but not enough for it to run, which I would guess is about 4:1. The fenders and valances are done also but I haven't had a chance to do a couple pics. Maybe this weekend!

Ok, well it's been a long time since I've worked on the truck, but I have a pretty big update for you guys. I just don't have time to do a total strip and restore on the body, but I really wanted to "seal" it before winter comes again and the rust has a chance to creep in below the thin, cracked paint. SO, down to the local farm store I went! It was the only place I could find olive drab enamel by the gallon. I tried to roll on the first coat saturday but it looked terrible, so sunday I bought a long air hose and sprayed the second coat which turned out pretty good. It's nice and thick even after being thinned 10%. The I rolled on some satin white rustoleum on the roof. I think it looks pretty tough! Eventually I'll do a nice shiny color, but untill then this will do nicely, plus touch up will be a breeze. Check it out...

What made you change from the Satin Black to Olive Drab. I am thinking of spraying the Rustoleum Satin Black on my '68 F100 when the time comes.

I know it sounds a little crazy, but you should wipe it down with a little Pledge. I have heard it will seal it a little and blend some of the "dry streaks".

Well, I did the hood and fenders and after looking at it for awhile it just wasn't doin' it for me. On top of that I wanted to fix every little dent and blemish, which will require removing all the paint and a lot of dent repair that I'm just not very good at. All I did with this paint was go around the truck and clean up all the small rust spots and knock off any loose paint. It sprays thick enough (plus it's dull enough) that you have to get up close (like within a few feet) to see where there was any paint damage before. The rustoleum showed all that stuff. As for the pledge, I'll have to try that on a test door I did. It still has a lot of loose overspray on it, so I'm gonna give it a good scrub in a few days here and see how it looks. I think it will all blend better and look pretty uniform once it's totally hardened and weathered a bit.

I was wondering about that with the satin black and that makes sence about the overspray. I'm sure once it cures and has a good washing, it'll look even better. Don't get me wrong, I think it looks great and I'm sure it looks even better in person.

I have a 35 gallon stand up compressor that I used. It's a huskey from the home depot, but it's a nicer one with an oil lubricated pump like the big boys, not one of those loud oil free types. The paint gun also came from the home depot. It's got a bottom hung feed and costs about $45 if I remember right. It's the same one I used when I did the hood in black. It sprays pretty smooth if you get the paint thinned good and the gun set right.

Well, I can't believe it's been over a year since I had anything good to add to this thread! Starting a family will do that to you I guess. In fact, as I type this there is a 14 month old set of eyeballs staring at my moving fingers.

ANYWAYS, the real update is that my interior restoration began yesterday! Work is finally slowing down and the plan is to knock it out in about two weeks, tops. Yesterday I dropped the seats off at the unpholstery shop and began painting on the inside. Were talking paint, seats, F600 gauges, headliner, dash, and anything else that needs it. Here's some before pics to get this thing going; updates will be coming soon!

Thanks! I love having a crew, but as you probably already know it sure hurts the wallet when you have to get TWO seats reupholstered instead of just one. That's been the real hang up; I just didn't want to fork out the cash until I had to. Now the springs were through the foam and one kept tearing holes in my jeans, so it's time.
