Lincoln Electric Welder
Hey ever one I hope ya had a grate Xmiss.
My mom and dad bought me a Lincoln Electric Welder, 100HD, Its Flux-Cored Wire welder, 100Amp, My ?, Does any one have this welder or have a clue how good it is? I have a stick welder and a diff Flux welder but I need a part for it that ya can't find.
I want to be able to weld Frames at 12Ga steel, Thats the thickest I'll ever weld,
It says it can do 1/4' but Im sure it woud take two passes to weld that or go really slow.
I know it will be way hard to do body work with it. I know there is a kit I can buy for it to make it gas and flux but I can't find it.
Thanks

Re: Lincoln Electric Welder
Is it a 110 or 220 welder??
If its a 110, 1/4 will require multiple pass. Well I dont know, I would have to run a bead with it first. I would say multi passes on 1/4"
I have the lincoln 180 pro-mig. Its a 220 welder set up for mig & 20/80 gas & it will do 1/4" single pass. Its a great little welder. Little sucker will weld so hot, it would burn up the nozzel before it quit.

Re: Lincoln Electric Welder
Its a 110, We are thinking about taking it back for this one /www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/ser ... =100093231
3200 with gas anf flux its only a 110 tho its 439$ the 220 one is 569$ I woud get the 220 but im not working right now so 200 more$ for me is not a good Idea. I've been thinking about stuff i'll be welding the most I'll do is floor pans, horse shoes stuff like that.
I can use my friends welding rig if I have to .
What woud you do?
My arc or stick welder is 220.

The 100 will work great. Lowes used to sell the conversion kits or the local welding supply will have them and the bottle that you'll need. I have a baby lincoln 110 and I welded up the trailer axles with it...
Flux is ok for some structural stuff, but you want the gas for sheetmetal work.

Re: Lincoln Electric Welder
I agree with Jamie. For what your going to be doing the one you have should be fine. Just remember to let it cool down between hot passes. Heat is what kills the 110 welders. & as Jamie stated, you could just use the money you would have coughed up for a 220 welder to buy a gas kit for the 110. Mig is the only way to go. Nice clean welds, no slag to chip. ect. ect.Ranchero50 wrote:The 100 will work great. Re: Lincoln Electric Welder
My brother has that same welder. Is yours flux or intersheild? If its flux and your running gas it'll run really nice or at least the millers at the techinal collage I go to do,but if its intersheild convert it to mig because intersheild runs like crap it's really poppy and just dosen't make a clean nice bead. I've tried a million times with my brothers to make a nice vertical up and then down with that inetrshield and it just wouldn't the bead looks really sloppy. If you can find the kit make it mig

Re: Lincoln Electric Welder
It should it'll just take some practice and a little bit of time. What we do at school is take the nozzle off and run a little bit longer arc length. We take them off when we do vertical up and down because with intershield there's no gas being used so that means the nozzle isn't needed. Doing that helps me out because I can see what i'm doing better. Just keep that longer distance btween the metal and the contact tip because if you run it short it'll melt that tip quick1971fordcustom wrote:http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/sto ... =100039229 Thats wut I have. Also with intershield there's a light coating of slag on it so if you use a chipping hammer and chip it off and wire brush it looks alot better.

Oh Cool Thanks! Today I was playing with my stick welder on some stuff, I chiped off the slag over my welds and wow ever little mark was the same at the others. So I got the angle Grinder out with a cut off wheel and cut my weld, No lil wormes nothing just all new steel. Thats the best I've ever welded with the Stick.
I did find out I can do up to 3/16th with the 100Hd so that is about 12Ga steel. So its gonna work for what I wanna do, Im still gonna get the gas kit and a 10 pound thing of Mig wire.

Yeah, I think you'll need the adaptor to put the bigger spool of wire on. I have the same welder, think I paid the same price ten years ago...
With the flux run it hot and slow. The wire should sizzle like a cooking egg.

Re: Lincoln Electric Welder
I have the Lincoln MIG-Pak100. It's basically the same welder. (All HD stands for is Home Depot.)
I made my bumpside trailer with it. It's a good welder, just remember that it doesn't like to run for long periods of time without a rest. For thicker stuff (3/16-1/4") use flux core wire, and go slow so that you get good penetration. For thinner material, definitely get the MIG adapter kit. The gas will help keep the weld cooler, so it will be less likely to burn through or warp the material. Trying to weld thin material with flux core will not provide happy results.
I really like my Lincoln welder. But you do have to practice to get good at it.
