WOW its been two months since ive worked on it!!!
heres what i did though, im dying to get this thing back together!
finished stripping the underside of bed, ALOT of time went into that, several weekends. mostly because the factory primer is sooo stuck on there, the wire wheel takes forever to get it off
ooooooo ahhhh look at all the shiny
sides
tilt cab back
aloooottttt of scraping
grinding
im thinking we should rebuild the tranny. sense everything on this truck is being re-done, id hate to leave the tranny. but im running really low on money and will be for a while since school takes up work time and people are ending there newspaper subscriptions (i do 3 paper routes with dad). and if i rebuild the tranny ill have to put in a manual/auto valve body because there so cool. so thats another $250 gone. hmmm.
so i will be stripping the rest of the frame and under the cab, then i will por-15 the undercab, rest of chassis, gas tank, bunch of other parts i have stripped and then ill start on BODY WORK
which means a whooooole lot more stripping

re: 69 F100 Ranger project- 9/14 more stripping
I was wondering if you had set this one aside to build the racer.
Keep up the good work.

i set it aside for a while to swap engines in the 71, but the 71 can't race without its tow vehicle

Re: 69 F100 Ranger project- 9/14 more stripping
-pulled crank from the 360 block
-removed front end suspension (going to scrap, swapping in disk's later on)
-stripped 90% of the rest of the chassis
-dad and i removed the tranny/driveshaft
-removed steering
-removed brake lines/fuel line/valve
did all the stripping with one used wire wheel. Harbor Freight sells a $5 (maybe it was 6) wire wheel that lasts a million times longer than the $13 Dewalt ones from Lowes. however i do go over the frame with a metal putty knife and scrape at the undercoating that was applied along time ago to help save my wirewheels.
you can see the parts inside the frame i still need to get at. also the bottom of the front crossmember and the bottom of the shock mounts and such still need to be stripped, but thats pretty much it.
there was actually about 1" of greese stacked ontop of this shock tower. im glad the metal didnt rust at all.
clean metal
things that should be POR-15'd within two weeks..
leaf springs/brackets
whole bottom of bed and inside of bed fenders
bottom of cab/cab mounts/corners
rest of the chassis
more brackets
underbed tank
lower valance
9" rearend
whatever else im forgetting.
im so excited to have all POR-15ing done within a couple weeks then i can actually... start reassembling stuff and then... body work
psshh, my mom calls this dirty

What was really funny was when he came to the dinner table after getting "washed up". All he had done was wash the palms of his hands. He was going back out to do more work so he didn't bother getting totally clean. I saw the logic in that, his mom didn't!

.... that sounds familar from somewere in my daily life. Coming home from school i get told to get cleaned up... then i get to work and get told to get cleaner....which isnt possible ..some stuff just wont come off with out removing skin .
And i agree there is plently of logic in not getting perfecly clean if you are just gonna get dirty again. the truck is looking great btw... im hoping to start the por-15 of the bottem of my cab and cab floors along with the under bed side of the truck.

I don't really care about brands Chevy Ford Dodge ...as long as it doesn't sound like two old dudes farting in a coffee can.

it would of took me an hour to get cleaned enough to satisfy mom. its funny when i walk in the house completely covered in grease and she just shakes her head and tells me not to touch a thing1971fordsdad wrote:What was really funny was when he came to the dinner table after getting "washed up". Re: 69 F100 Ranger project- 9/14 more stripping
update!
had the week off from school, so i spent it working on the 69.
- bottom of cab stripped (took ALOT of time!)
-stripped the front chassis
-por-15'd chassis
-por-15'd bottom of cab
-stripped rearend
-por-15'd most of rearend
-stripped/por-15'd leaf springs, underbed tank, engine towers, steering link, crossmember and whatever else
nooooo rust except where cab mount bushing was, that got heavily por-15'd.
its so pretty i did rattle can up in the sides of the bed, but the lower inner-bed sides are por-15
all the pretty por-15'd like new parts
the underside of the chassis is so hard to get, you cant see where you havent gotten. you have to know how to "feel" the brush and feel if its on metal or por-15

Re: 69 F100 Ranger project- 11/30 stripping/por-15
thanks
it seems so easy to just brush on some paint but its really soo hard
next for this truck is to put the rear suspension all back together and get the rear rolling again, mount all the under-bed tank stuff, put cab back upright. then find a disk brake setup, put that on and get the front rolling. then the whole chassis might just be done (besides the small things like wiring, brakes etc.)
