Is my FE oil drain plug location stock?

Good morning,

Is my FE oil drain plug location stock?

I've read in the forum that others enjoy the same symptom of oil splashing all over the crossmember with their FE's, but I wanted to make sure my drain plug was in the stock position regardless.

Mine is on the passenger side but in the same location with an aftermarket pan. I would imagine that is the stock setup, most I've seen have been in that spot.

I'm new to Fords and this forum. So I'm going to ask a stupid question. I hear a lot of engines referred to as "FE", what does it mean?

I'm sure somebody with more experience will add a better answer to this thread, but basically the FE is Ford's name for their big block V8 engines found in 60's and 70's era cars and trucks.

From Wikipedia:
The FE and FT engines are Y-block designs—so called because the cylinder block casting extends below the crankshaft centerline, giving great rigidity but heavy weight. In these engines, the casting extends 3.625 in (92 mm) below the crankshaft centerline, which is more than an inch below the bottom of the crank journals.

These FE blocks are also much stronger than others because of the design but much heavier as well. Oh yea and to answer the question about your drain plug...it's in the OE spot, same as mine. Your all good. Dont forget to take pics and video of the new engine...

Good morning 390F100 and Basketcase,

Thanks for the FE info and oil drain plug link. I can now rest assured that although the plug's in a dumb place I'm in good company.

390F100, I'll definitely take a million photos and videos of my new engine! I haven't spoken to Steve at Proformanceunlimited since ordering it, but if it's still on track it will be delivered in around four weeks. I'm working as deliberately as I can on the weekends to make sure I'm ready for it!
