Decision time on the 360

Post by HH Henderson »

Well, I put power steering and power booster and it was running great yesterday morning.. however, it is in the shop now with a broken cam.
Looking for suggestion: I either rebuild it or go to another engine. What will fit in place of the 360 and still be able to use the same power steering pump that I just added. I could just replace the cam, but might as well do it right.
Suggestions are welcome!

HHH,

The 360 is one engine in the "FE" Series. The FE engines are all of the same external dimensions. Bore and stroke determine the displacement, using different length rods and crankshaft stroke. Externally, these engines all look pretty much alike.

Some original displacements offered by Ford / Mercury were 352, 360, 390, 406, 410, 427, and 428 as well as some others. Your accessories should bolt right back up to any of these.

You may be able to change out to another engine series and still use your added accessories. However, I am not familiar enough with what changes over exactly. It is likely only some different brackets will allow you to still use your accessories on a different engine series.

any FE engine will fit.

Personally, I would build a 410 from any ol 360/390 block and call it good...
