Hi there!
Today I got the first real problem with my bump (´69 F250CS/360FE). I started it and everything worked normal for about half a mile. Then suddenly, when driving uphill, the engine stopped. First thought was that I ran out of fuel, because the main tank is almost empty and I forgot to switch to the full aux tank. After switching the tank selector I tried to restart, but the starter didn´t work. I found out, that the fuse "DOME" was burned out. I changed it and the starter worked again, but the engine didn´t start again.
Any ideas where I should start with troubleshooting? And what has the "DOME" fuse to do with the starter?
I´d be very glad if anyone has some helpful ideas.
Thanks,
Chris

The domelight has nothing to do with the starter. Possibly bad ignition coil or condenser. I'd start there first.

Side oiler FE, see if you can catch me!!!

Hi Chris.
I agree, the fuse doesn't have anything to do with the starting problems.
There are a lot of things that could be causing the symptoms you're describing. Two things common to both the start circuit and ignition circuit are your battery and ignition switch. I would check all your battery connections, including grounds, check that they are clean and tight. I would also check the connections at your ignition switch itself. If that doesn't solve any problems then there is a possibility that the ignition switch is going bad. But then again, it could be a number of things, so you will just need to check them out one at a time.

Now I found out that the battery and ignition switch are ok, but the starter relay gives only about 6V to the starter. I thought that´s all and tried to start by passing the relay with a jump starter cable, but the starter didn´t do anything. Then I removed the starter and checked it by connecting it directly to the battery - and it still didn´t work.
I think, the initial problem is the bad starter and then, when I was trying to start several times, I killed the starter relay. Now I have ordered both parts new.
Does anyone of you use "Powermaster Mastertorque Starter"? That´s the one I get

On your truck there is a fuseable link that comes off the Starter Relay, it should be a black wire with a orange box (COULD BE YELLOW) but check that and make sure you are getting power on the otherside of that fuse the side farthest away from the Relay. If not try replacing it.
