best choice for oil
Whats the best weight and brand of oil to run in our bumps. My manual says for texas climate 10/30 but my truck has 140,000 miles. They are making high milage oils now what about those. Been running motercraft 10/30 but guy at az said you can't get it anymore.
Motor craft has changed to a synthetic blend and all iv'e been able to find is 5/20 and 10/40.

re: best choice for oil
I use 15/40 Rotela-T in everything. It's about the only oil left that still has zinc in it.

re: best choice for oil
I have no problem finding 10-30 in northern Cali, which is what I am running now. After convincor mentioned the zinc issue I will probably switch to 15/40 Rotela-T. My recollection is that the zinc if for the flat tappet cam lobes?

The zinc is part of the anti wear additives that are blended with the oil. It's primary purpose is prolonging lifter and cam lobe life.

15/40 weight is ok to use w/ high mileage motors.
Where do you get rotella. I run mobile 1 in the wifes care. I think its the best you can buy, but i need to run several short oil changes and that would get expensive. Also this truck set up a while and there was some rust in the valve covers probably from sweating. Is there an oil or additive to help prevent that.
I have heard that the 302 is bad about engine condensation if you make short trips and then it sits like a weekend driver as mine.

re: best choice for oil
do a search in the FE forums or places like Club Cobra's FE section.
Rotela's real popular especially for use with solid flat tappet cams.
For like said above, cam lube
Some will use other oil but add a zinc additive.
Mobile1 I like, ran it in a 502 roller motor I had in my boat. But for the FE's I'll stick with Rotela.

My dad runs rotella in his f250 diesel. He swears by it. I figured it was mainly for diesel engines.

I use Valvoline 10w30 Durablend.
I did use Motorcraft 15w40 diesel oil (for the zinc) while breaking in the cam but I am going to change it back to the 10w30 Durablend.

Yea i need to check the PCV system most of the rust was on the PVC valve side. Could have a stopped up valve or hose.

Here's a link for comparison. The Valvoline is the highest.
