CLASSIC TRUCKS MAGAZINE '68 F-100

Post by Buckinthebowtie »

Well, at long last here's an update with a pic! I finally got the truck back together enough so I can start on motor and trans mounts. This should be ride height on coilovers. Still gotta send out the back tires to have the redlines put on em which made all the difference with the 18-inch American Racing AR 500s as far as I'm concerned-I Love em!

At least you have paint!
My truck will rust quick if I don't throw a cover over it at night.

Hey! It's nice to meet another Grant, no too many of us.
Yeah, I think for real world ride height on coilovers it's pretty good. I did build the chassis so I could switch to ShockWaves, but I'm somewhat apprehensive about switching...maybe some people don't set it up right, but I've heard more than a few stories about failure and the destruction that follows...it'd sure look better another 4" closer to the ground though...

sadly i think its the construction of the shockwaves that doom them to be better than they are. Don't know if it's design, or quality, but seems like the guys who use them, don't like them. Another thing you could look at, would be a hybrid setup. use the air in the bags to push the hydro fluid to raise the truck. Don't need hydro pumps, just air compressors. It gets technical, I am sure you know of this setup though, so I won't try to explain it.

Or....like another guy on a forum I frequent, he is using pump and compressors. The bags set the spring rate, and the hydros set ride height. Pretty trick if you ask me.

Oh and I think I have come across 3 or 4 Grants in my time. Personally I mean.

the lower you go the more problems you have. i had to cut my inner fender wheels when i put the 2" drop spindles on. its not that hard to box them back in but the hood mount is right there. i am not sure what marz68 going to do. i think maybe tilt the hood forward. i just cut a rough hole.

i think it looks good where it sits. i had a 70 shortbed that sat kindof low and it was not fun with speed bumps and pot holes.
