re: new '68 4x4! Project
transfer case mount is done, just need to do some more welding and tie it into the cab mounts. The square tubing runs through the frame, then through a peice of 1/4" that is welded to the frame...I got alot more clearance from that old P.O.S factory mount. This means the chassis is pretty much done.. Im pulling the engine whenever I borrow my buddys hoist, then im going to paint the entire chassis.
for bushings im going to use the 4 factory ones, but cut off the upper lip.
Im not happy with the fact I couldnt raise it above the frame rail, and that with the height I raised it with the new mount im going to have to run a 1" body lift and/or hack the cab.

I braced the t-case mount up, and shortened the wheelbase to 121". Im going to build a flatbed with an angle iron base and DOM tube. Also got the 390 pulled. Shouldnt be long before its all POR 15'd.

Cool i was just curious. did you move the wheels and all or did you just lop off the rear of the frame?

I moved the rear axle forward about 12". Then I cut the frame off right where I re-mounted the shackles. You can see in the pics where the old hangers use to mount.

the axle pinion angle is not steep, its pointed to the t-case. Its just going to be a really short driveshaft with the cv end at the t-case.spartman wrote:How is the rear shaft angle gonna work?
Looks kinda steep there.
Good job though. Keep it up.

re: new '68 4x4! Project
I took apart the engine and inspected it. Its a 390! and in good condition. Im going to give it a valve job, holley 670cfm truck avenger carb, 4 brl edelbrock manifold, edelbrock cam. Im going to run MSD ignition, get a top end gasket rebuild set, rear main seal, and oil pan gasket... also ordering t-case and trans rebuild kits. Also happy to say im not going to use the 67 as a doner truck for the 68! Im not doing it becuase the entire drivetrain of the 68 is awesome, Im flat bedding the back with tube... so all i need is a cab.
All of thoes drivetrain parts listed above is going to be right at about 1 grand. Im picking up my tube tommorow morning and then when I get back to welding class on monday ill start on the angle iron base.
