Anybody out there ever Wire up a Sub-Panel

I'm no "certified electrician" either, but I've done the same thing twice so far. So long as a guy does his homework and follows the rules, there shouldnt be any problem. The codes seem to change every couple years (what once was safe to run 14 guage wire, might not be now! )
Are you running a seperate line off the existing breaker box or off the meter? 125 amps sounds like a lot to come off an existing box depending on the rating.

What do you plan on running with 125a sub pnl? When you run the feed, make sure, (as you said" want to do it right", that you protect it . How are you running the feed, underground, overhead? If underground run it in "pvc", and MAKE SURE YOU PULL A GROUND WIRE appropriate for amps you intend to pull, and put in a ground rod! I know it might sound like overkill, but better safe than sorry. I got hug up on 120v 20a circuit, return "the neutral", let's say I had a real bad day at the emergency room! People think that you can't get hurt on 120v 20a, WRONG, it kills more people than high voltage. Just be safe, .

Go to the library and borrow any book by Rex Cauldwell. He has a series of books about electrical stuff and it helped me pass inspection when I ran the new subpanel for my garage.

There are a lot of other books out there, all will help. Pay particular attention to wire size over run distance.

Thanks My Brother's for all of your input!

The Main Breaker Panel is located on the outside of the garage on the South West corner.
I want to install the Sub Panel on the inside just with the back of the Sub Panel facing the Back of the Main Panel if possible.
That way the length of wire would be minimal as well as convenient for me.
As far as my power needs go I have quite a menagerie of Absolutely Necessary Power Tools!
In addition to my 60 Gal. Air Compressor, Mig Welder and Stick Welder I have a 30â€Â

Good News My Brother's!

A book by Rex Cauldwell titled WIRING A HOUSE arrived today from amazon.com.

I just briefly thumbed through it and it appears to be very well written with proper diagrams.

This book is definitely the confidence builder that I've been looking for quite some time now.
